Matthew Dorminy
Overview
Matthew Dorminy [Matthew Russell Dorminy] was arrested multiple times and had previously served two sentences in an Oregon prison. He has also reportedly harassed Jews, distributed anti-Semitic flyers and promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in his activism with the neo-Nazi Goyim Defense League (GDL).As of August 2023, Dorminy was an activist with the GDL, an anti-Semitic hate group and conspiracy theorist network active since at least 2018, with headquarters in Palm Beach, Florida. The group stages anti-Semitic stunts across the U.S. and operates a white supremacist online video-sharing platform called GoyimTV (GTV).
The term “goy” in Hebrew and Yiddish is often used to refer to a non-Jew, with “goyim” being the plural form. “Goy” literally means “nation” in Hebrew.
As of August 2023, Dorminy’s LinkedIn profile said he worked as a greeter at Home Depot.
As of the same date, Dorminy’s LinkedIn said he was he was located in Seaside, Oregon.
Multiple Arrests
In August 2022, it was reported that Dorminy had a criminal record dating back more than two decades, including arrests for “trespassing on school property, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, burglary, prostitution and attempted first-degree assault.”In July 2022, Dorminy was arrested following an incident in Tillamook, Oregon, in which he reportedly destroyed posters at a business and tried to replace them with anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi flyers. Dorminy was later charged with “Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree” and “Harassment.” On July 27, 2022, Dorminy pled “no contest” to the charges. He was fined and given probation.
On May 5, 2017, Dorminy was convicted after pleading guilty to the felony “attempting to commit a class A felony.” Dorminy committed the felony on September 25, 2015. Dorminy was sentenced to 70 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution totaling $6,419.63.
On the same day, Dorminy was also convicted of “attempting to commit a class A felony” which he committed on August 30, 2016. Dorminy was sentenced to prison for 70 months and ordered to pay restitution totaling $825.81.
Dorminy reportedly served his 2017 sentences in a correctional facility in Oregon.
July 2022 - Harassing Jews and Distributing Neo-Nazi Flyers
Dorminy harassed Jews and minors, handed out anti-Semitic flyers and promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories in various Oregon communities.
In July 2022, Dorminy reportedly distributed anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi flyers produced by the GDL in multiple Oregon cities, including Garibaldi, Tillamook and Pacific City. He also distributed the flyers on the campus of Tillamook Community College, where he got into a physical confrontation with campus staff.
Dorminy drove around the area in a van covered with messages promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, including one that said: “APPROACH ME TO TALK ABOUT THE COVID AGENDA.”
While flyering, Dorminy also did impersonations of “The Happy Merchant” while out in public.
The Happy Merchant is an anti-Semitic cartoon caricature of a Jew with a black beard, long hooked nose, a hunched back, crooked teeth and wrung hands. The cartoon is often used in memes by white supremacists to spread conspiracy theories and harass Jews online.
During the same period, Dorminy reportedly targeted and harassed Jewish community members. Residents also reported that Dorminy had directly approached children, including some under ten years old, to share his anti-Semitic views. He also passed out stickers directing them to watch a neo-Nazi film he advertised on his van.
