Marwan Bishara

Marwan Bishara has spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and promoted anti-Semitism via satirical articles. He has also defended the terror group Hamas and equated Israel with ISIS.

Bishara has also supported an anti-Israel agitator, attacked American Jews on Twitter and spread hatred of Israel and Israel supporters. 

Bishara is a senior political analyst with Al Jazeera English and the host of “Empire,” an Al Jazeera-produced TV program “which examines global powers and their agendas.”
 
Bishara was a lecturer in International Relations at the American University of Paris (AUP) and is a fellow at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).

As of August 2018, Bishara was the chairman on the Board of Trustees of the Galilee Foundation, a UK-based charity which claims “to promote development and equality of the Palestinian indigenous community in Israel.”

Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Theories

Bishara has frequently implied that the United States is controlled by Israel and Jews.

On February 25, 2018, Bishara wrote on Facebook: “If there was ever doubt in the Arab mind about Israeli tail wagging the US dog, it dissipated with Trump's latest statement on Jerusalem. .... Imagine if an American president appointed three American-Islamist Hamas sympathisers to run US Israel policy.”

On December 6, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “@realDonaldTrump decision on #Jerusalem was influenced by the radical Jewish Zionist advisors trio: Jared Kushner, David Freedman, Jason Greenblatt. It's like three Islamist Hamas sympathizers dictating US policy on Israel. Make America…”

On February 26, 2009, while hosting an Al Jazeera episode of Empire titled: “Israel and the US,” Bishara stated [00:18:55] “some people argue that the lack of attention and the lack of attempt on the part of Washington to do something serious in Israel/Palestine... is because of the so called Israeli lobby or Jewish lobby in Washington.”

Bishara went on to cite [00:19:11]New York Times articles, saying that “a lot of American Liberal Jews have been dominating the Middle East agenda in Washington, for several administrations. And that's why there is no progress.” 

Bishara also claimed [00:19:11] that “for now several administrations, we've have moderately or radically Zionist Jews, American Jews, dominating the Middle East agenda, whether at the National Security Council, or whether at the State Department or at the Pentagon.”

The conclusion of the episode featured a short documentary about the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) that referred [00:21:09] to AIPAC as the "most feared lobby" that has a “stranglehold” on US. foreign policy. 

The narrator of the documentary then alleged [00:22:00] that AIPAC has “150 full time staff work to align U.S. foreign policy with Israel's needs.” 

The narrator went on to claim [00:22:08] that “To ensure it [AIPAC] controls congress, they also interview every candidate running in national elections.”

The documentary also featured [00:22:38]text that read “Jewish Political Action Committees” and a list of dozens of U.S.-based organizations. The voiceover during the scene said: “Saying it AIPAC’s way unlocks billions of dollars in election contributions from stealth groups, pro-Israel organizations with misleading names.”

In a second part of the Empire “Israel and the US” program, Bishara also spoke [00:07:28] with Stephen Walt, who co-authored an anti-Israel article titled “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy.” 

Bishara stated: "You must recognize that Israel has become or has been transformed by Washington into some form of an American state, almost a laboratory for modern warfare, and has earned its right to affect American policy in the Middle East." Walt disagreed with Bishara’s statement. 

On December 21, 2017, Bishara responded to a tweet by the newspaper, Haaretz that read: “Israeli ambassador to UN: Countries voting against Israel and U.S. are the Palestinians' puppets...” Bishara tweeted: “... or Washington is Israel's puppet- which do you think is more likely? Palestine manipulating world or Israel manipulating USA...!”

On December 10, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “Jared shrimp Kushner boasted last sunday that his peace team included a real state lawyer and an arab speaking banker; now that the latter is leaving the White @WhiteHouse, US diplomacy is led by a bunch of Zionists.”

On December 3, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “Re #Jerusalem, Washington will continue -under pressure from Israel lobby - to do Israel's bidding in Middle East until or unless Arabs and others prove it terribly damaging to US interests @Trump @NYTimes.”

On June 16, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “@trump was played by saudi which was played by UAE that was duped by Israel! but who duped Israel? Re #Qatar? @trump! @Sisi? No one!”

On March 21, 2016, Bishara wrote in a Facebook post: “Although AIPAC claims to be an American watchdog that defends US-Israel relations, its record demonstrates that it’s an Israel attack-dog in Washington.”

On March 3, 2015, Bishara wrote in an article: “Obama, who was elected on an anti-Bush agenda, has tried to undo what some Americans termed as the ‘Israelification’ of the US strategic doctrine that led, among others, to the invasion and occupation of Iraq.”

On April 23, 2014, Bishara tweeted a link to an article he wrote in the Huffington Post titled: “Explaining the #Jewish Hold Over #Palestine, in #America.”

One day earlier, Bishara tweeted: “The implications of a Jewish control over the Palestine agenda in the US,” and linked to Bishara’s Huffington Post article which was published by Al Jazeera under the title “Palestine as an exclusively Jewish issue in the US.”

On April 21, 2014, Bishara also tweeted a link to the article and wrote: “Jews hold on Palestine in America…”

Anti-Semitic Satire 

On February 5, 2015, Bishara wrote a satirical article for Al Jazeera titled: “Netanyahu calls Saban and Adelson...Big money to the rescue…” 

The article replayed an imaginary phone conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and two wealthy American Jewish philanthropists, Haim Saban and Sheldon Adelson, plotting against U.S. President Barack Obama and his efforts to make a deal with Iran. 

The article is reminiscent of an anti-Semitic fabricated text, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, that depicts wealthy Jews conspiring to take over the world. 

In Bishara’s article, Saban says: “We should've done it, Sheldon; we should've bought the New York Times.” Adelson responds: “Yeah, and the Washington Post, but we missed our chance. You know, with the exception of the Wall Street Journal and FOX, much of the media outlets are biased; they speak of Israeli occupation and Palestinian rights as if either exists.”

Saban continues: “You know, it's not only the issue of media where we have certain influence; it's the economy…”

Bishara also depicts Saban and Adelson as pledging to Israel their “unconditional support” and casts Saban as a warmonger, who says, concerning Iran: “I would bomb the living daylights out of the sons of bitches,' if other means fail.”

Bishara portrayed Saban and Adelson as seeking to bribe politicians to support Israel, with Saban saying: “We will remind everyone that money, lots of it, will go to those who are loyal, or against those who betray us.”

Adelson adds: “I am certain that between Haim, me and a few others, we'll stand out during the presidential campaigns and we'll eventually become kingmakers come next elections.”

Adelson then suggests that Netanyahu appear more on U.S. TV networks with “the likes of Wolf Blitzer.” Netanyahu says: “You know, Wolf was the correspondent for the Jerusalem Post before CNN, and he used to write for Jewish Week under the Hebrew name… Ze'ev Barak?”

Adelson replies: “Nope, didn't know that. It's good to know our people are everywhere.”

Netanyahu ends the conversation saying: “We need a nationwide campaign to get everyone in line with our agenda. Can't let the president get away with dictating U.S. policy on his own.”

On February 2, 2015, Bishara wrote a similarly-themed article depicting a supposed conversation between Netanyahu and Chuck Schumer, titled “Netanyahu calls Schumer, The saga continues; the plot thickens.”

Defending Hamas

On November 19, 2012, Bishara tweeted: “israelis are more likely to get hurt by a car than by a rocket; Hamas aims for a 'balance of fear' with Israel, for deaths, focus on traffic.”

On July 25, 2014, Bishara tweeted: “#Hamas didn't do it; it didn't kidnap or kill the 3 Israelis ... alas many died in vain ... Many more will. Stupid.”

In August 2014, Hamas admitted responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers at a bus stop on June 12th of that year. The bodies of the abducted boys were found buried in Palestinian-controlled territory on June 30, 2014.
On July 25, 2014, during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE), Bishara wrote an article titled: “On arrogance and war, How and why is Israel weakening Abbas, strengthening Hamas, and destroying Gaza?”

Israel commenced Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.  

In his article, Bishara wrote that “Netanyahu decided to exploit the killings of three young Israelis at the hands of unknown assailants to launch a war on Gaza in order to ‘defeat’ Hamas, humiliate Abbas and break the national unity government.” 

Bishara went on to allege: “By design: Israel's military recognises the danger to civilians but persists, illegally, in bombing countless locations it suspects of harbouring weapons, militants, or their supporters. Then, rather disingenuously, it blames Hamas for using people as human shields.”

On July 22, 2014, Bishara tweeted: “it's becoming clear that even when it comes to updates from the field, #Hamas outs out more accurate info than Irrael.”

Equating Israel with ISIS

On March 9, 2015, Bishara wrote an article equating Israel’s actions during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war with ISIS terror activity. The article was titled: “ISIL, Israel and cultural cleansing.” The subheading read: “When discussing ISIL's cleansing of pre-Islamic history, we must also consider Israel's erasure of Palestinian culture.”

Supporting an Anti-Israel Agitator 

On December 29, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “Dear @Malala, speaking of courageous young women, #AhedTamimi and her cousins would like to hear from you while they spend another night in #Israeli prison #FreeAhed.”

On January 1, 2018, Bishara tweeted: This is a lost battle any which way #israel chooses to fight it; shooting, prosecuting, jailing #AhedAlTamimi; it will lose even if it wins.STUPID.”

Attacking American Jews 

On June 10, 2017, Bishara implied that former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, was disloyal to the US, tweeting: “Before addressing your Q duality thesis, Im curious if former US ambassador to Israel now working 'for Israel' constitutes a duality.”

Bishara was responding to a tweet by the Shapiro, that read: “1. Anyone who has worked in the USG on Middle East policy has run up against the frustrating Qatari duality.”  

On June 2, 2014, Bishara replied to a tweet by Jewish journalist Jeffrey Goldberg writing: “take it from someone more educated & better informed about the issues you write about; Some Jewish humility is good for you.” 

Hatred of Israel and Israel Supporters

On July 24, 2017, in response to a tweet that read: “Israeli forces begin to remove metal detectors from al-Aqsa compound gates,” Bishara tweeted: “Only pressure works when it comes to Israel doing the right thing.”

Terrorists murdered two Israeli police officers on July 14, 2017, outside the entrance to the Al Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Israel responded by installing metal detectors and security checks at the entrance to the holy site.

Palestinian factions reacted by spreading incitement that resulted in further violence. Fatah threatened “Rage for the Al-Aqsa Mosque!” On July 21, 2017, Omar al-Abed, 19,broke into a Jewish family's home in Halamish and stabbed three family members to death while they were having a Sabbath meal. 

The Israeli government removed the detectors on July 25, 2017.  

On March 27, 2017, in response to a tweet that read: “@alaraby_ar
بلير ينسف مبادرة السلام العربية: التطبيع العربي-الإسرائيلي هو الحل [Blair is blowing up the Arab peace Initiative: Arab-Israeli normalization is the solution].” Bishara tweeted: “#Israel's poodle at it again: #Arab should normalize relations with Israel even as it occupies, oppresses and colonizes rest of #Palestine.”

On February 1, 2017, Bishara tweeted: “Israel has duped the international media by camouflaging its illegal huge settlement expansion with the circus in Amona; 
And all jumped in.”

On June 3, 2016, Bishara tweeted: “Israel new spokespersons have been genetically modified for a more sterile emotionless performance... amazing robotics!”

On July 26, 2014, Bishara tweeted:“Those who defended #Gaza aggression as an Israel right to "defend itself" are also responsible for the 1000 deaths!”
