Logan White
Overview
Logan White participated in a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement hunger strike at the University of South Florida (USF), during Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists. The hunger strike began in March 2024.White’s activism took place in the wake of a series of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The Hamas terror attacks left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”
As of July 2024, White’s LinkedIn profile said he was studying for a bachelor’s in computer science and computer engineering at USF, slated to graduate in 2026. USF is located in Tampa, Florida.
Pro-BDS Hunger Strike during Israel’s War against Hamas
On February 27, 2024, White was featured [slide 3] in a graphic posted on Instagram by the USF Hunger Strike for Palestine group, featuring a sign that read: “FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA.”“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.
On February 28, 2024, White was featured in a video posted on Instagram by the USF Hunger Strike for Palestine group under the alias “Leroy,” in which he said [00:00:04]: “...I’m choosing to hunger strike in my efforts to urge USF to divest from the companies enabling genocide in Gaza.”
On March 17, 2024, 18 anti-Israel activists at USF reportedly initiated “an indefinite hunger strike beginning Monday, March 18.” The hunger strikers demanded that USF divest from companies doing business in Israel.
On March 19, 2024, White was featured [00:00:01] in a video posted on Instagram by the USF Hunger Strike for Palestine group on the first day of the hunger strike. The video description said: “LeRoy gives a check in and discusses the first day of action yesterday…”
On April 1, 2024, White was featured in a video posted on Instagram by McGill Hunger Strike. The text in the video said [00:00:22]: “Sage, from McGill, is meeting Leroy from USF, to learn more about their demands and support pro-Palestinian student advocacy across the world!”
On April 3, 2024, USF Hunger Strike for Palestine changed [slide 5] its name to USF Divest Coalition.
On the same day, the USF Divest Coalition posted on Instagram that “While our demands were not met,” they were “encouraging strikers to break their strike.”
They wrote: “We will ensure our community is not complicit in genocide, and divestment is inevitable.”
USF Divest Coalition also wrote [slide 2] that a reason for ending the hunger strike was because of “multiple hospitalizations” and “fatal health warnings.” They also wrote [slide 3] that they will be “helping organize 4 more hunger strikes on campuses…”
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
