Anti-Semitism

On July 6, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “If ur eating at a zio establishment I hope u choke on ur food.”

The term "Zio" is a common derogatory reference to Zionists, as well as an often-used anti-Semitic slur among white supremacists.

On July 7, 2013, Buftain tweeted: “Sad old Jew…just thought u should know this exists.” The tweet included a link to a Google image search on the word “blobfish.”

A blobfish appears to have a bulbous nose when it is taken out of the water, evoking an anti-Semitic stereotype that Jews have large, hooked noses.

On April 12, 2012, Buftain tweeted: “The way I whine & complain, with a nasally voice due to my cold, one would think I'm a jew.”

On August 5, 2011, Buftain tweeted: “...bahahaha fkn [f**king] jews! I'm allowed2say it I get carte blanche due to settlers in my country&my significant other / #holocaust.”

On March 20, 2021, Buftain tweeted: “If an item says ‘from Isr*el’ u bet ur a** I’m not paying. The item is coming home w me but I’m not paying for it, it’s called reparations / Hope my ancestors r proud 🤣.”

Terror Support (PFLP, PIJ, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade)

On July 20, 2019, Buftain posted [slide 82] on Instagram Highlights an image of Leila Khaled holding a machine gun. The image included a quote of Khaled in which she glorified being a female “freedom fighter.”

Leila Khaled is a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participated in the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 in 1969 and El Al Flight 219 in 1970. As of 2017, Khaled was a member of PFLP's Political Bureau. Khaled has said that the second intifada failed because it was not violent enough, advocated [00:36:07] for the use of children in terror activities and compared Zionists to Nazis.

On May 13, 2022, Buftain shared a quote on Instagram from terrorist Ghassan Kanafani that said: “With blood we write for Palestine.”

Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.

On August 9, 2022, during Israel’s Operation Breaking Dawn (OBD) against terrorists in Gaza, Buftain posted a screenshot on Instagram that said: “eternal glory to our martyrs and long live the Palestinian resistance.”

In August 2022, the terror organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) threatened attacks on Israeli civilians. Israel preemptively launched OBD. Both PIJ’s northern and southern senior commanders in Gaza, Tayseer al-Jabari and Khaled Mansour, were killed in targeted Israeli airstrikes. PIJ responded by launching more than 1,000 rockets toward Israeli cities.

On August 10, 2022, Buftain posted [slide 1] a screenshot of a social media post that said: “i don’t understand the need to mold Palestinians into the ‘perfect victims’ in an attempt to appease Western narratives…every act of resistance against colonialism is justified.”

Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti- Semitic violence.

Buftain’s post also included [slide 3] a screenshot of a social media post that said: “...The resistance has the right to resist this occupation no matter what deals are made.” Buftain’s post also included [slide 5] a screenshot of a post that said: “...Glory to the martyrs. Long live the resistance.”

On September 28, 2022, Buftain posted a screenshot [slide 7] on Instagram Highlights titled: “Palestinians killed by IOF in Jenin.” The post included the images of three Palestinian terrorists reportedly affiliated with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and one reportedly affiliated with PIJ who died in a shootout with Israeli security personnel.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade is the armed wing of Fatah, the main group in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The Brigade has been listed as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the U.S. State Department since March 2002 and was responsible for multiple suicide bombings [00:13:37] during the second intifada, in 2002-2004.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) is a terror group “whose objective is the destruction of the State of Israel and the establishment of a sovereign, Islamic Palestinian state.” PIJ is backed by Iran and has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings and other attacks.

Buftain retweeted a May 1, 2023 tweet that read: “zionist media reporting of the martyrdom of Sheikh Khader Adnan (PIJ senior leader) following almost 3 months hunger strike. Time to strike the occupation and make them pay for this heinous crime.”

Khader Adnan was a senior member of the terrorist organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). PIJ is reportedly backed by Iran and has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings and other attacks. In May 2023, Adnan died in prison after refusing medical treatment during a hunger strike.

Hatred of Zionists

On June 1, 2023, Buftain tweeted a graphic that read: “German saying: If 9 people sit down at a table with 1 Nazi without protest, there are 10 Nazis at the table.” Buftain commented: “This also applies to Zionists.”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) highlights as one possible contemporary example of anti-Semitism: “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” The U.S. State Department adopted the IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism in 2016. Over 40 countries have adopted the definition as well.

On November 1, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “I don’t have many yt [white] friends but the few I have will google the resto owner to double check if they’re zio or not before confirming our dinner plans and reserving. I love that🤍.”

On July 20, 2022, Buftain posted on Instagram a meme of Sesame Street characters holding guns and a knife with text that said: “YEAH WE HATE ZIONISTS KEEP SCROLLING.” Buftain wrote: “We also hate 2 staters and ppl who claim to b for our freedom yet work and support Zios and those affiliated w them.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

The two-state solution envisions a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by dividing the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea into an Israeli Jewish state and a Palestinian Arab state.

On July 13, 2022, Buftain posted [slide 2] on Instagram a picture of the cartoon character Bugs Bunny with text that said: “i wish all Zionists a very صاروخ يلعن ابوكم [F**k you missile].”

On April 29, 2022, Buftain posted on Instagram a screenshot of a tweet that said: “zionism is a completely valid reason to dismiss somebody’s entire body of work, I literally do not care what u have to say after that point.”

In the post, Buftain wrote: “Good morning! If queer spaces and events claim to be safe yet hire and work w zios and when addressed make excuses IT IS NOT A SAFE SPACE.”

Hatred of Israel

On April 23, 2023, Buftain posted an image on Instagram with the text: “Y’all think it’s hot today🤔 wait til you go to hellfor 😩 supporting Israel.”

On November 4, 2022, Buftain posted a meme to Instagram showing the movie character Godzilla with a Palestinian flag behind it. The meme had the text: “YEAH I GOT A TWO STATE SOLUTION FOR YA! / MY FOOT & YOUR A**! / FREE PALESTINE.”

On August 5, 2022, Buftain posted on Instagram a screenshot of a social media post that said: “يا اخي يلعن ابو اسرتئيل[Bro, may Allah curse Israel].”

On May 22, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “Take a sec and watch this it’s important af [as f**k]...This applies to all of us, stop acknowledging the colonizers and use the real name! Say it loud and proud PALESTINE.”

Buftain’s tweet included an Instagram video of an Iraqi politician speaking to the Iraqi parliament. The video was captioned: “I Demand Deletion of the Word ‘Israel’” on the screen.

On May 13, 2022, Buftain posted on Instagram a screenshot from Jordanian news where the anchor burned an Israeli flag. The subtitles on the screenshot read: “- Let us spit on this flag. Tfu [spit]. - Tfu.”

On February 4, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “Just remember that every time someone refers to Palestine as ‘isr*al’they’re siding w apartheid and ethnic cleansing.”

On February 1, 2022, Buftain wrote on Instagram: “Call it what it is, an apartheid state, a settler colony, genocidal, ethnic cleansing. Use the proper fkn [f**king]terminology 👏 and don’t catch yourself on the wrong side of history / #rightofreturn / #fromtherivertothesea \ #bds.”

The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.

On July 27, 2021, Buftain tweeted: “...it’s Israel that shouldn’t exist.”

On September 16, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “Abolish all yt [white] ppl.”

On November 22, 2022, Buftain tweeted: “If ur following is mainly yts [whites] I sure af [as f**k] don’t want u sharing my posts and bringing ur yt audience to me…”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
