Ken Stone
Overview
Ken Stone [Kenneth Everett Stone] has expressed support for terrorists, promoted incitement and spread hatred of Israel.Stone is a founding member of Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), an anti-Israel group that has been accused of promoting “antisemitism under the guise of radical anti-Zionism.” Stone is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. IJV also promotes BDS.
Stone is a frequent speaker at the annual Quds Rally in Toronto. The Iranian government initiated International Quds Day in 1979, as an annual protest against Israel’s existence. The protest has historically been a platform for anti-Semitism. He spoke at the rally in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.
Stone is a frequent guest on Iranian state-owned Press TV, where he has repeatedly demonized Israel.
As of November 2022, Stone’s Twitter bio said he was a “treasurer” at the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War, located in Hamilton, Ontario.
As of the same date, Stone’s Facebook page indicated he was retired and that he was previously a “Former Teacher at Halton District School Board” and a “Former Mail carrier at Canada Post.”
Stone graduated from McMaster University (McMaster) with a master’s degree in Political Science. He graduated from the University of Toronto (UToronto) with a bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science and Economics.
As of the same date, Stone used the handle “@CcarKen” on Twitter.
Promoting Terrorists (PFLP)
Khalida Jarrar is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who has been in Israeli prison multiple times. In 2019, she was one of 50 PFLP operatives arrested, following a deadly 2018 bombing attack that targeted an Israeli family on vacation.
Stone retweeted a May 13, 2022 tweet that said: “Don’t miss this important Webinar today about the case of Palestinian activist Khaled Barakat, in defense of free speech + democratic rights of pro-Palestine & antiwar activists in #Canada…”
Khaled Barakat is reportedly [p.24] a Central Committee member of the PFLP and the Solidarity Campaign Coordinator for the release of PFLP General Secretary – Ahmad Sa’adat.
Promoting Incitement
On April 30, 2022, Stone spoke at a Quds Rally in Toronto, where he said [00:01:48]: “We condemn the recent attacks by the Israeli regime during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on the worshippers at Jerusalem Al-Aqsa mosque.”The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
At the end of March and beginning of April 2022, Palestinian terrorists killed 14 Israelis in a number of attacks.
At the same April 30, 2022 Quds Rally in Toronto, Stone said [00:07:35]: “We salute the courageous people of Palestine and their enduring and creative resistance against Zionist occupation."
Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “steadfastness” (sumud) is the will to resist or persevere in the face of opposition, while "resistance" is often a euphemism for nationalistic terror. Both terms are often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.
On April 17, 2022, during a Ramadan marked by multiple terror attacks on Israeli civilians, as well as attacks on Israeli police stationed on the Temple Mount, Stone tweeted: “Israeli forces attack Muslim worshippers during Ramadan at the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem…”
Stone retweeted a February 18, 2022 tweet that said: “Within days, Israel plans to forcibly expel the #Salem family from their #SheikhJarrah home - where they’ve lived since 1951 - and replace them with settlers. Take 10 seconds to tell @JustinTrudeau to #SaveSheikhJarrah & stop ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem…”
On August 19, 2012, Stone featured in a YouTube video of a Quds Rally in Toronto, where he addressed multiple issues, including Al-Aqsa and the Israeli security barrier.
Stone said [00:00:48]: “The crimes of the Zionist regime against the Palestinians, which include their shameful ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians, their attempt to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and threaten the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, their apartheid wall, the siege of Gaza.”
Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.
The United Nations approved [pp. 39–41] the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of Gaza in 2011 as a security measure to stop Hamas from acquiring sophisticated rockets. Multiple flotillas have attempted to breach the blockade, with at least one flotilla initiating a violent confrontation with Israeli forces.
Hatred of Israel
Stone retweeted an April 5, 2022 tweet that said: “Why does
reject the @amnesty report on #IsraeliApartheid? One reason:the power of the Zionist lobby in Canada…”On April 2, 2022, Stone tweeted a headline from a Crescent International article that claimed: “Zionist occupiers continue killing spree of Palestinians.” The article indicated that Israeli troops killed three terrorists from Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) who had opened fire on the Israeli troops who were trying to arrest them.
On January 5, 2022, Stone tweeted: “In case you missed it, there were several very informative talks about the many ways that the Govt of Canada enables the apartheid State of Israel... Yes, Canada Arms and Funds Israel …”
On November 25, 2021, Stone tweeted: “...Israel can only get away with ethnic cleansing and illegal settlements because it has the virtually unconditional backing of the US empire and its vassal states, such as Canada.”
Stone retweeted an October 24, 2021 tweet that said: “I am outraged by news that #Israel designated six #Palestinian human rights NGOs as ‘terrorist organizations’. Defending human rights, calling for accountability, fighting against arbitrary arrests, is a legitimate work and must be respected, not shut by flawed terrorism laws.”
On May 22, 2021, following Israeli-Arab rioting in Israeli cities such as Lod, Ramle, Acre, and Jaffa, Stone tweeted: “Coexistence in Israel’s ‘mixed cities’ was always an illusion…Jewish pogroms were unleashed in the past several weeks against Palestinian citizens living INSIDE the apartheid State of Israel #FreePalestine…”
On March 3, 2021, Stone tweeted: “...Shame on Broadbent Institute for supporting the racist State of Israel…”
On January 5, 2021, Stone tweeted: “As Israel Leads In COVID-19 Vaccines Per Capita, Palestinians Still Await Shots…Zionism is racism! #FreePalestine…”
Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.
On October 27, 2020, Stone tweeted: “Biden has defused Israel issue and won the battle of the Israel lobby…Biden said, ‘Send a message to Bibi [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu], I love him.’ Sickening!”
On June 3, 2020, Stone tweeted: “‘Deadly Exchange’: America’s Racist Policing Has Roots in Israel…”
In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange (DX)” campaign, which accused American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses. JVP also released a video that blamed [00:04:04] U.S.-based Jewish organizations for violence that occurs against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.
On June 3, 2019, Stone appeared in a YouTube video from a Quds Day Rally in Toronto where he led [00:06:51] the chant: “Palestine must be free, from the River to the Sea!”
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.
On March 29, 2019, Stone tweeted: “Here’s the raw data on the Israeli massacre of Gaza protestors: ‘A year of bloodshed at Gaza border protests…’”
On May 13, 2016, Stone reportedly referred to Israel as “the criminal Zionist regime in Jerusalem” and “the Zionist colonial project in Palestine” and called for Israel’s “end.” He also spoke in support of the “right of return.”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
