Justifying Hamas Terrorism

On October 8, 2023, Stein posted on X: “When a murderous occupation makes peaceful resistance impossible, it makes violent resistance inevitable. / #Israel #FreePalestine #EndApartheid.”

Among anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” is a euphemism for terrorism and is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis, kidnapped hundreds and wounded thousands. War crimes included mass rape and torture. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” For more information, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.

On January 29, 2024, Stein posted on X: “WITH FIRST U.S. DEATHS AND LOOMING ESCALATION, JILL STEIN DENOUNCES [U.S. President Joe] BIDEN’S WAR CRIMES, DEMANDS CEASEFIRE, GAZA AID AND UNRWA FUNDING.”

The United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has hired Hamas members as teachers in its schools and provided arms to the terror group. Dozens of UNRWA staff participated in the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack on Israel, and many kept hostages for Hamas in their homes.

On July 15, 2024, Stein posted on X: “This did not start on October 7th. This has been going on for 75 years, and ethnic cleansing was baked into the plan. This is a problem of Zionism.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture. Zionism is a core part of the identity of most Jews.

The modern State of Israel was founded 76 years earlier, in 1948.

On May 9, 2024, Stein posted on X: “Please consider a contribution to @UNRWA to support their lifesaving work under siege in Gaza…”

Israel and Egypt implemented a UN-approved [pp. 39–41] joint blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2011 to stop Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets. Hamas went around the blockade by smuggling weaponry through tunnels under the Philadelphi corridor separating Gaza from Egypt.

Denying Hamas War Crimes

On October 10, 2023, Stein posted on X: “Corporate media has long been whipping up war fever for the greatest purveyors of violence…Have they no shame?” Her post was in response to another post on X that said: “So far, the lone source for the claim that 40 babies were beheaded and/or killed by Gaza militants was @Nicole_Zedek, an Israeli state sponsored media reporter citing ‘soldiers.’ She’s since issued a clarification stating death toll is ‘unknown.’”

Hamas terrorists murdered Israeli Jewish babies during its October 7, 2023, terror attacks. Some of the babies were beheaded and some were murdered in front of their parents.

On July 26, 2024, Stein posted on X: “Yes, @netanyahu, babies are being burned - and starved, crushed, and shredded by shrapnel - by the thousands. / Just not by Hamas.”

Denial of the Hamas war crimes of October 7, 2023, among anti-Israel activists has been likened to Holocaust denial among neo-Nazis.

Hatred of Israel

On December 14, 2023, Stein posted on X: “Israel doesn’t want a two-state solution, or any state for Palestinians. / They just want to keep killing Palestinians, taking their land, and holding the rest under apartheid with no rights…Cut off US support for Israel now.”

The two-state solution envisions a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by dividing the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea into an Israeli Jewish state and a Palestinian Arab state.

On September 22, 2024, Stein posted on X: “Israel’s escalating attacks on Lebanon are clearly intended to provoke a wider regional war - even world war - and drag the US directly into the fight. / All to enable genocide. / Biden and Harris must cut off all arms and funding to Israel NOW before they get us all killed.”

Hatred of America and the Police

On September 15, 2024, Stein posted on X: “Whoever funds you, runs you - and both @TheDemocrats and @GOP are funded by Wall Street and war profiteers, so both parties push wars and fascism. Even in blue states under a blue president, they’re criminalizing free speech and protest - and building cop cities to control us.”

On May 27, 2024, Stein posted on X: “This Memorial Day, we remember not only our fallen soldiers, but also all the victims of war - including the uncounted and unknown victims of US empire, from Vietnam to Palestine…”

On January 5, 2024, Stein posted on X a video of herself and wrote: “The Empire knows its days are numbered, which is why they are doubling down as we are rising up.”

In the video, Stein said [00:00:12]: “...it’s never been more hopeful and more resistant and more inspired by uprising. There is a very powerful movement…which begs to have political power and which has really said to the empire: ‘Your days are numbered.’ And the empire knows that, which is why they are doubling down as we are rising up.”

On July 4, 2023, Stein posted on X: “Let’s declare independence again, this time from the most powerful empire in the history of the planet, the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today. #IndependenceDay.”

On March 11, 2023, Stein posted on X: “Cop City = empire doubling down at home
- militarizing police / - attacking our right to peaceful protest / - destroying our forests / climate / Empire hurts us all, abroad & at home. / Together can stop it. Must stop it.”

Participation in the Pro-Hamas Encampment at Columbia

On April 19, 2024, Stein posted on X: “Thank you, Columbia students! / May your resistance spread like wildfire to campuses across the country and nations around the world. / This movement is unstoppable.”

Stein’s X post included a video of anti-Israel protesters at the Columbia encampment holding a sign that read [00:00:01]: “BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY,” while chanting: “Disclose! Divest! We will not stop! We will not rest!”

Anti-Israel activists use the phrase “by any means necessary,” as one of multiple euphemisms for terrorist violence, including “resistance.”

On April 26, 2024, Stein was featured [00:00:01] in a video posted on Instagram by  Faculty for Justice in Palestine-Columbia University, Barnard College, and Teachers College (FSJP-CBT) at the Columbia encampment.

The post said: “How much is the genocide in Gaza costing the average American household? Dr. Jill Stein visits the Gaza Solidarity encampment in its 8th day, and shares the true costs of America's military industrial complex. ‘It is time for us to stand up and like the students did here, and it is spreading like wildfire.’”

On April 30, 2024, Stein posted on X a video of protesters at Columbia forcing their way into the University’s Hamilton Hall and wrote: “Solidarity with the students of Columbia University. Your unwavering stand against genocide has sparked an unstoppable uprising for peace and justice. This generation is taking its place in history as heroes leading a peaceful revolution to take back our future.”

On April 17, 2024, Columbia students and anti-Israel activists set up a pro-Hamas encampment on campus to protest Israel’s war against Hamas and promote BDS. The encampment was forcibly dismantled and approximately 80 Columbia students were arrested.

new Columbia encampment was erected, during which participants forced their way into the university’s Hamilton Hall, vandalizing [00:00:55] and destroying university property. They barricaded themselves in the building, taking three Columbia custodians hostage. An NYPD raid on the building found knives, gas masks, ropes and literature that read: “...DESTROY zionist business interests everywhere!...DEATH TO AMERICA!...”

Support for Anti-Israel Protesters

On April 24, 2024, Stein posted on X a video of clashes between anti-Israel protesters and the police at the student encampment at the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) and wrote: “The bravery of these student protestors is absolutely awe-inspiring. 🤩.”

The encampment was one of about 140 anti-Israel college encampments set up in North America, and over 20 globally, in the spring of 2024. The first began on April 17, 2024 at Columbia University. Protesters harassed Jewish students, blocked Jews from campus facilities and used anti-Semitic language in their activism. They also promoted BDS and protested Israel’s war against Hamas, launched after Hamas murdered approximately 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023.

In the same thread, Stein also posted on X: “Absolutely. 🍉.” Her post was in response to a comment on her previous post that said: “. @CornelWest was at @Columbia University protesting. Either you or him have to take office when the times comes. Start leading the way! Or get out of the way and support another!”

The watermelon has been appropriated by anti-Israel activists as a symbol of Palestinian "resistance" to "Israeli occupation," as it shares the Pan-Arab colors.

On May 3, 2024, Stein posted on X a video of her interview and wrote: “Many students are risking everything right now for a very just and important cause. If you have the opportunity to join an encampment, please do so. The more support in numbers these students have, the stronger our movement will be.”

In the interview, Stein said [00:00:04]: “I felt enormous solidarity with the students…I was feeling this enormous respect for them…and how minimal the violence was [at the encampment] compared to what’s going on in Gaza.”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
