Jeremy Press Taylor

Overview

Jeremy Press Taylor has expressed support for violent protesters, protested against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), has opposed the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and is a leader with IfNotNow (INN).

As of July 2019, Taylor’s Facebook page said he “studied at Warren Wilson College (WWC).”

Supporting Violent Protesters

On April 2, 2018, Taylor attended INN Boston’s event titled: “Boston Sanctuary Seder: Resist Deportations & Violence in Gaza.” The Seder’s Facebook description said: “On the first night of Passover, 17 unarmed Palestinian protesters were shot and killed by Israeli forces.”

On March 30, 2018, some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza approached Israel’s border to take part in “Land Day Protests,” or the “March of Return.” The march was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests to spotlight the Palestinian demand to “return” to Israel. The “right of return” has since been discredited as a means to eliminate Israel.

Most of the Gazans who died between March 30 and April 6, 2018, were identified as terror operatives who were killed while carrying out terrorist attacks, rioting against IDF forces or attempting to breach the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Media reports confirmed [00:00:20] the March of Return protesters’ breaches and attempted breaches of Israel’s border fence, some by armed Palestinians. One Hamas leader declared [00:00:30]: “We will take down the border [with Israel] and we will tear out their hearts from their bodies.”

Taylor indicated on Facebook that he “went” to INN Boston’s event titled: “#HowManyMore? Mourner’s Kaddish for Protesters Killed in Gaza” on April 13, 2018.The event’s Facebook description claimed: “the IDF has used lethal violence to repress peaceful protest, killing 31 Palestinians and wounding over a thousand protesters.”

The Jewish ritual of the Mourner’s Kaddish is a prayer customarily reserved for close relatives or Jews murdered for being Jews.

Protesting AIPAC

On March 25, 2017, Taylor posed for a photograph posted on Twitter by INN Boston on a “bus to #ResistAIPAC.” The bus was part of the INN Boston organized event called: “Get On The Bus! IfNotNow Boston Storms AIPAC.”

The event’s Facebook description said: “We're going down to AIPAC to shut down the 17,000-person conference.”

On March 24, 2017, Taylor signed up to attend INN Boston’s: “Reclaim, Reimagine, Resist: Shabbat Gathering Pre AIPAC - Boston.”

The event’s description said: “The annual AIPAC policy conference is always a festival of pandering, with American politicians jockeying for who can pay higher lip-service to the U.S.-Israel ‘special relationship.’”

On March 23, 2017, Taylor shared an INN photo on Facebook featuring Dr. Cornel West, promoting INN’s “Resist AIPAC. March 26. D.C.”

Cornel West is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. He has dismissed Jewish historical connections to Israel, labeled Israel an apartheid state and claimed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are worse than Hamas.

Taylor indicated on Facebook that he “went” to INN Boston’s event titled: “Jewish Resistance: Harvard Community Action Meeting” on March 6, 2017. The event’s Facebook description said: “learn more about our upcoming action at AIPAC’s policy conference in March. We will talk about... our plans for our Resistance at AIPAC.”

Opposing the Recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

Taylor indicated on Facebook he “went” to INN Boston’s: “EMERGENCY RALLY: Jews Say No to Trump Embassy in Jerusalem” at AIPAC’s Boston offices on December 6, 2017.

The event’s Facebook description called the announcement of the move: “a tragedy for our beloved Jewish people.”

On December 10, 2017, the U.S. government recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and announced that the U.S. would relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Anti-Israel Activism

On March 7, 2018, Taylor was the designated contact and host for INN Boston’s “Community Dinner,” pitched as a vehicle to learn about the movement and ways to get involved.

Taylor indicated on wherevent.com that he “went” to an INN event, called: “IfNotNow Won’t Celebrate 50 Years of Occupation” on June 11, 2017. The event description said: “our generation is not celebrating. IfNotNow will...make sure that everyone knows that this anniversary is also the 50th anniversary of the Occupation: nothing to celebrate.”

Taylor indicated on Facebook that he “went” to an on April 6, 2017, hosted by Jewish Voice for Peace Boston and SURJ Boston - Showing Up for Racial Justice, that featured Reuven Abergel.

The event’s Facebook page described Abergel, who was a founder and leader of the Black Panthers of Israel and the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), as “an icon of the Mizrahi struggle in Israel.”

The International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN) claims to “struggle against Zionism” and accuses Israel of the “ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.” IJAN’s Facebook page from August 2016 includes a poster supporting terrorist Rasmea Odeh. Sara Kershner, IJAN’s founder, claimed at the 2014 SJP National Conference that Israel was committing “genocide” against Palestinians.

The group photos on IJAN’s Facebook page from August 2016 include a poster supporting terrorist Rasmea Odeh. IJAN’s founder, Sara Kershner, spoke at the 2014 SJP National Conference at Tufts University —where she claimed that Israel was committing “genocide” against Palestinians.

On February 17, 2017, Taylor participated in an INN Boston action called: “Jewish Resistance Against David Friedman in Boston,” at U.S. Senator Ed Markey’s office.

Taylor held a sign that said: “Jews Say #NOFriedmans #IfNotNow” and activists blew a shofar at the disruption, a Jewish tradition reserved for the holiest days of the Jewish calendar.

On February 21, 2017, INN Boston shared a live video on Facebook of the protest. In the video, activists demanded that Senator Markey vote against the confirmation of U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, because of his support for Jewish communities in the West Bank.

On January 17, 2017, Taylor was a leader at INN Boston’s: “Jewish Resistance 2017: Anti-Inauguration Action.”

The event’s description on Facebook said: “The Jewish Federations of North America and Boston’s Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) have failed to meet IfNotNow’s demands...Their moral voice is corrupted by their lack of chutzpah...and by their ongoing support of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.”

Taylor indicated on Facebook he “went” to JVP Boston’s event, titled: “JVP September Meeting: Understanding the Vision for Black Lives” on September 27, 2016.

The event description said: “Our monthly meeting for September will have a special focus on The Movement for Black Lives' policy platform... An in-depth discussion of the document (which JVP National has endorsed) can inform our organizing for justice from Boston to Palestine.”

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) Platform stated: “The US justifies and advances the global war on terror via its alliance with Israel and is complicit in the genocide taking place against the Palestinian people.”

IfNotNow (INN)

IfNotNow (INN) is an anti-Israel organization founded in 2014, in response to Israel’s Operation Protective Edge (OPE) against Hamas.

INN claims to be “young Jews angered by the overwhelmingly hawkish response of American Jewish institutions” to OPE. INN presents three demands on its website: “Stop the War on Gaza, End the Occupation, and Freedom and Dignity for All.”

INN defines “the Occupation as the military rule over Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza,” which is land Israel has controlled for nearly 50 years since the 1967 Six-Day War. However, INN leaders have made [00:34:32] the claim [00:13:49] at protests that the occupation is 70 years long, referring to Israel’s founding in 1948.

INN actions have aimed to demonize [00:38:13] Israel, harass [00:05:44] mainstream American Jewish organizations like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and decrease support for Israel among American Jews.

INN has used “public action and imaginative ritual” to achieve its goals, including disruptions where activists were arrested.

One of the high-profile arrests occurred at a May 2018 disruption at a U.S. Senator’s office in Washington, D.C. to protest legislation against the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

At the same incident, INN used [00:07:17] the Jewish ritual of the Mourner’s Kaddish prayer to mourn [00:09:10] protesters who were killed during the Hamas-organized and funded Great March of Return riots on the Israel-Gaza border.

INN activists have also staged and promoted walk-offs from Birthright Israel trips, a heritage trip to Israel for young Jewish adults from across the world.

INN claims to take no position on the BDS movement and that it is “open to any who seek to shift the American Jewish public away from the status quo that upholds the Occupation.” However, INN organizes with pro-BDS, anti-Israel organizations including American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).
