On March 30, 2018, some 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza approached Israel’s border to take part in “Land Day Protests” or the “March of Return.” The March of Return
was organized and funded by Hamas as a campaign of violent protests along Israel’s border to spotlight the demand of Palestinians to “return” to Israel.

Most of the Gazans who died between March 30 and April 6, 2018, were identified as terror operatives who were killed while carrying out terrorist attacks, rioting against IDF forces or attempting to breach the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Anti-Israel Activism

On May 14, 2021, Ghussein wrote on Facebook: “‼️SAVE SHEIKH JARRAH PROTEST 5/16 - WESTLAKE PARK‼️ ❗️LIST OF DEMANDS❗️ - End U.S. military funding to Israel…”

Ghussein’s Facebook post featured a flyer promoting an anti-Israel rally titled “NAKBA 73 #SAVESHEIKHJARRAH” scheduled to be held in Seattle, Westlake Park on May 16, 2021.

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

The rally was endorsed by multiple anti-Israel organizations, including Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice For Peace (JVP).

In May 2021, Ghussein indicated on an Instagram post that the rally was organized by Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).

On May 17, 2021, Ghussein tweeted photos from the May 16th rally and wrote: “5000+ strong in Seattle yesterday for Palestine #SaveSheikhJarrah #SaveGaza #FreePalestine #StopBombingGaza #EndApartheid #GazaUnderAttack.”

One of the photos featured a large banner held by protesters that read: “BOYCOTT FOR JUSTICE END ISRAEL’S APARTHEID REGIME.”

On the same day, Ghussein posted on Instagram more images from the rally, including one of herself holding a sign that read: “DO YOU SUPPORT THE VIOLENT DISPOSSESSION OF ME AND MY FAMILY? - MOHAMMED EL KURD.”

In May 2021, El-Kurd returned from the United States to Israel, following a February 16, 2021 Israeli District Court ruling to evict over 70 Palestinian tenants.

In 2020, 2019 and 2018, Ghussein fundraised via Facebook pages for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF)

PCRF has been financially linked with The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, Global Relief Foundation and The International [Islamic] Relief Organization — all of which were shut down by the United States government for funneling donations to terrorist organizations.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
