Ghina Yassin

Overview

Ghina Yassin has called for Israel’s destruction, expressed support for a terrorist, promoted incitement and demonized Israel. Yassin has also spread hatred of Zionism and Zionists, engaged in anti-Israel activism and is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In August 2021, Yassin indicated on Twitter that she ran the Yafa Lounge restaurant, located in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada.

As of October 2021, Yassin used the alias “ghinapalestina” on Twitter, as well as on Instagram.

Calling for Israel’s Destruction

On March 15, 2019, Yassin tweeted: “the only reason i haven’t killed myself is because i wanna see the downfall of israel.”

On May 11, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “they [Israel] murder our children because those babies are their biggest threat, the future of our resistance and the downfall of israel...”

On May 23, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “i didn’t want kids until i remembered there’s a whole industry tryna wipe out the palestinian population so i’m taking initiative and singlehandedly birthing israel’s downfall.”

On May 28, 2021, Yassin tweeted, wishing “death to isr*el.”

Supporting a Terrorist

On March 31, 2021, Yassin tweeted, referring to Majd Barbar: “he spent 20 years in jail, TWENTY years. when they finally let him go they arrested him a day later. the humiliation and degradation they inflict on palestinians is just never f**king enough, if they don’t put a bullet in your skull they drive you insane enough to do it yourself.”

Majd Barbar was sentenced to “20 years in jail on charges of affiliation” with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and for “his role in armed resistance” in 2001. Barbar reportedly formed “an armed resistance group” in Jerusalem, during the Second Intifada.

Promoting Incitement

On May 10, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “it was never about land disputes, what part of palestinian blood coating the streets and shores of palestine over the past 73 years says it’s about anything but ethnic cleansing and colonialism #AlAqsaUnderAttack #SaveSheikhJarrah.”

In May 2021, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa compound following claims the Al-Aqsa Mosque was in danger. The subsequent incitement was a leading factor in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza into Israel later that month. Israel responded by launching “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza. Allegations of Jews “threatening” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque have been a traditional pretext for Arab attacks on Jews predating the State of Israel.

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

Incitement surrounding Al-Aqsa and Sheikh Jarrah were leading factors in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at Israeli population centers from May 10 to 21, 2021. In response to rocket attacks from Gaza, Israel launched “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” striking military targets in the terrorist-controlled enclave.
Also, on May 10, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “nothing is accidental about this. STOP watering down the actions of these heartless murderers.”

Yassin’s tweet referred to a tweet that read: “...Video showing an Israeli settler vehicle accidentally ramming a Palestinian after being stoned by a group of Palestinians in front of Lions Gate; Situation is very tense in the areas.”

On May 10, 2021, Palestinian rioters threw stones at an Israeli vehicle near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, injuring the driver who then lost control of his car and swerved off the road, hitting several pedestrians. The rioters attempted to attack the driver, before a police officer arrived at the scene and fired warning shots to disperse the mob.

Demonizing Israel

On May 14, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “i’ll respect someone who serves crack before i respect a mf [motherf**ker] who serves in the idf [Israel Defense Forces].”

On May 13, 2021, during Israel’s “Operation Guardian of the Walls(OGW)” against Hamas in Gaza, Yassin tweeted: “THIS is a genocide. they know people on the outside are all gazans have #GazaUnderAttack #genocide.”

In May 2021, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists fired over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at major population centers in Israel. Israel responded by launching OGW, carrying out targeted military strikes in Gaza.

On May 13, 2021, Yassin tweeted, comparing Gaza to “an open air prison.”

On May 12, 2020, Yassin tweeted: “f**k idf [Israel Defense Forces] and f**k anyone that supports those terrorists.”

On June 28, 2020, Yassin tweeted: “any decent person: palestinians are being ethnically cleansed and massacred, for the past 70+ years we haven’t seen a day of peace, end the illegal military occupation of palestine, gazans deserve better...”

On April 16, 2020, Yassin tweeted, accusing Israel of “the genocide of palestinians.”

Hatred of Zionism and Zionists

On May 19, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “zionism is racism.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

In 1975, an anti-Israel resolution that branded Zionism as a form of racism was proposed to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). Although the resolution passed in 1975, it was repealed in 1991, by a much larger majority.

On May 1, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “calling a zionist ugly is in no way comparable to the displacement, systemic discrimination, & ethnic cleansing they’ve inflicted on palestinians for 7 decades.”

Anti-Israel Activism

On May 14, 2021, Yassin tweeted: “i hope to see you all masked up tomorrow in toronto if you are able to i urge you to come out, our existence is resistance.”

Yassin’s tweet featured a flyer promoting an event organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) titled: “NAKBA 73 ONGOING NAKBA ONGOING RESISTANCE” in Toronto on May 15, 2021.

The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.

On May 15, 2021, Yassin tweeted photos taken at the PYM-organized protest. One photo featured someone holding a sign that read: “NORMALIZE SAYING: ZIONISM IS RACISM.”

Supporting BDS

On October 31, 2020, Yassin tweeted: “personally adding palestinian brits to the BDS list, yall better boycott them asap [as soon as possible].”

On October 23, 2020, Yassin tweeted: “moroccan oil is an israeli brand, there’s tons of BDS friendly brands that have products 10x better! (not a personal attack, just for my mutuals to know).”

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
