Fatma Abdelaal
Overview
Fatma Abdelaal has spread incitement and was an activist with the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at Jay College of Criminal Justice (John Jay SJP) from 2018 to 2020.As of April 2024, Abdelaal was listed online as having graduated from John Jay with a bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology in 2020. John Jay is part of the City University of New York (CUNY), which is located in New York, New York.
As of the same date, Abdelaal’s Instagram bio said she was located in “nyc [New York City].”
Spreading Incitement
On May 21, 2021, Abdelaal tweeted: “The worst part is the fact that Palestinians were celebrating before
they just can’t catch a break.” The tweet linked a tweet that said: “BREAKING: Israeli forces storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound launching tear gas and stun grenades at worshipers. Back to square one?”The allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before the existence of the modern Jewish state. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
Ramadan is an Islamic holy month during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and are meant to engage in self-reflection, repentance and the giving of charity. Ramadan is frequently marked by increased anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric throughout the Arab world, Palestinian violence in Israel and heightened tensions centered in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Anti-Israel Activism (SJP)
From May 2018 until March 2020, Abdelaal participated in multiple John Jay SJP events. On May 7, 2018, Abdelaal was featured [slide 1] in a photo posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram, standing next to a flyer promoting the group’s event titled: “JERUSALEM THE RED LINE.” The event flyer read: “After President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital of israel waves of people from all different backgrounds protested to oppose this unpopular decision…”
In December 2017, the U.S. government announced its decision to formally recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to relocate the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
On February 5, 2019, Abdelaal appeared [slides 3-6] in a group photo posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from their annual campus club fair, where she promoted SJP.
On September 12, 2019, Abdelaal was featured [slides 1, 2] in group photos posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram with text that read: “Come hang out with Students For Justice In Palestine in our new redecorated room L2.70.12

.” On September 26, 2019, Abdelaal appeared [slide 3] in a group photo posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from an SJP general meeting. The meeting’s Instagram post included a graphic known as “Handala,” a symbol in support of the “right of return.”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
On February 4, 2020, Abdelaal appeared [slide 3] in a group photo posted to John Jay SJP’s Instagram from the annual campus club fair event, where she promoted SJP.
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
