Anti-Semitism and Hatred of Israel during a Hamas War
On February 10, 2024, Haynes attended a rally in support of United States presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the St. Cecilia Music Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the rally, Haynes said [00:00:17] to the press: “The Black community, as far as I know, in Michigan, we are standing with the Arabic community. We are standing with them. The thing as far as Israel, we already know how Israel, when it comes to the Black community. You know, we know Israel has, you know, Israel has slaves. We know that. We know Israel has slaves.”
The claim that Jews were dominant in the transatlantic slave trade was propagated in a book published by the Nation of Islam titled: “The Secret Relationship between Blacks and Jews.” The book has been discredited in a work titled: “Jews, Slaves, and the Slave Trade: Setting the Record Straight,” by John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor of history, Eli Faber.
When the interviewer tried to clarify whether Haynes meant that the State of Israel had slaves, Haynes answered [00:00:45]: “Let me rephrase this: Jews. I’m just gonna say Jews. So we know that the Jews didn’t take too kindly of the Black community, especially slaves in their community.”
