Astrid Terrazas
Astrid Terrazas was arrested during an anti-Israel encampment protest in 2024. Terrazas has expressed support for terrorists and promoted incitement and hatred of America.
Terrazas's anti-Israel activism and social media posts occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, called “Swords of Iron.” Israel launched the war after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.
As of February 2025, Terrazas was a member [00:00:33] of the "CUNY 8," a group of outside agitators arrested for their unlawful activism in support of an anti-Israel encampment at the City College of New York (CCNY), part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system.
For more information, check Canary Mission’s campaign "Outside Agitators Arrested at CCNY Encampment."
As of February 2025, Terrazas's personal website said Terrazas was a Mexican-American artist working with "painting, illustrated ceramic vessels, and mixed media sculpture."
Also as of February 2025, Terrazas was listed online as having graduated from Pratt Institute (Pratt) with a BFA in illustration in 2018. Pratt is located in Brooklyn, New York.
As of the same date, Terrazas was listed online as being located in Queens, New York.
On April 30, 2024, Terrazas was arrested for participation in CUNY's anti-Israel encampment, "following a clash between protesters and police."
The New York Post reported that Terrazas was "charged with burglary in the third degree and other related charges."
In a video posted on Instagram on February 10, 2024, Terrazas appeared [00:00:33] alongside other CUNY 8 members, giving an interview about Terrazas's participation in the CUNY encampment.
In the interview, Terrazas said [00:00:32]: "When I was arrested, I didn't feel like I had done anything wrong, because I believe in what we were doing."
Later, when asked [00:01:02] if Terrazas regretted being involved in the CUNY encampment, Terrazas answered [00:01:16]: "I don't regret being involved in the CUNY encampment. I would do it again in a heartbeat."
The CUNY 8 refers to a group of eight individuals arrested during an unlawful protest on April 30, 2024, for their involvement in the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at the City College of New York (CCNY). CCNY is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Law enforcement officers also sustained injuries during the protest.
None of the CUNY 8 were CCNY students. They, along with other protestors, were charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal trespass, tampering with physical evidence and possession of burglar’s tools. In addition, the arrestees were charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree for causing upward of $3 million in both damage to CCNY property and additional security measures the school was forced to put into place after the protest.
The other arrestees from the protest accepted plea bargains, while the CUNY 8 pleaded not guilty and decided to take their case to trial. The defendants face up to seven years in prison.
The CCNY encampment was one of about 140 anti-Israel college encampments set up in North America in the spring of 2024. The first began on April 17, 2024, at Columbia University. Protesters harassed Jewish students, blocked Jews from campus facilities and used anti-Semitic language in their activism.
On January 24, 2025, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists, Terraza shared [slide 5] on Instagram a photo of the former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza and wrote in a comment: "...All glory to the Palestinian people, the fight for their freedom is not yet complete, the flood continues!"
Yahya (Yehiya) Sinwar masterminded the October 7, 2023 terror attacks on Israel. While serving four life sentences in Israel, he was released to Gaza following the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal. On October 17, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces eliminated Sinwar in Gaza.
The language of “flood” is a reference to Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the name Hamas used for their terror operation on October 7, 2023. It is a reference to the allegation that Jews “threaten” to destroy Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque. This accusation has been a pretext for Arab attacks on Jews long before Israel was founded in 1948. Such propaganda has led to multiple periods of violence against Israeli civilians.
As of February 2025, Terrazas's X page cover photo featured a sign that read: "FROM RIKERS TO JENIN. FREE ALL PRISONERS. FREE PALESTINE."
On February 11, 2025, Terrazas shared [slide 3] on Instagram Stories Highlights a post promoting [slide 3] a book by Ghassan Kanafani.
Kanafani was a leading member and spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) during the terrorist organization’s early years. Kanafani announced the PFLP’s responsibility for the Lod Airport Massacre of May 1972 and was linked to the airport attackers. The attack killed 26 people and wounded 80 others.
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, approximately 2,900 heavily armed Hamas terrorists breached Israel’s border with Gaza. They executed numerous war crimes on civilians, including mass murder, beheadings of children, rape of men and women, torture, kidnappings and mutilation.
Hamas broadcast videos of their butchery on social media, often to victims’ accounts for families to see. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.” As of November 10, 2023, approximately 1,200 Israelis, the vast majority of them civilians, were murdered during the attacks. Hamas kidnapped 242 Israelis, including at least 30 children. At least 3,500 people were wounded, many severely.
A terrorist detained by Israel admitted he raped an Israeli woman when he broke into a kibbutz house during the October 7, 2023 attack. In March 2024, a former hostage of Hamas publicly stated she was sexually abused and tortured while in captivity.
For more information on the October 7, 2023 terror attacks, see the Canary Mission page on Hamas.
On March 2, 2024, during Israel's war against Hamas terrorists, Terrazas posted on Instagram: "...This morning at sunrise, an autonomous group performed a banner drop off the Manhattan Bridge...The banner reads 'FREE GAZA / GLORY TO ALL MARTYRS.'"
Terrazas's post also read: "As the most recent communique from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine demands, we will continue to escalate our resistance to produce rot in the imperial core [America] in an effort to 'unify the struggle and strengthen coordination between all Palestinian and Arab forces and supporters of the Palestinian cause around the world.'”
Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” is a euphemism for nationalistic terror and is used to glorify and encourage anti-Israel and anti-Semitic violence.
The PFLP is dedicated to the violent destruction of Israel. It is designated as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) by the United States. The EU, Canada, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Australia and Israel also list it as a terror group due to its history of carrying out assassinations, suicide bombings, hijackings and multiple murders.
Terrazas's post ended: "We honor all martyrs...those who have fought in resistance, and those who have fought for life...GLORY TO THE MARTYRS! LONG LIVE PALESTINE!"
