Amy Huang
Overview
She served as Finance Director of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for the 2013-2014 academic year.
As of June 2021, Huang’s LinkedIn stated that she was an “Entrepreneurial Fellow” at Celdara Medical, since September 2020.
Huang’s LinkedIn also indicated that she was a Ph.D. Candidate in the Laboratory of Molecular Immunology at The Rockefeller University (Rockefeller), since 2016. Huang’s LinkedIn also stated that she graduated from UCLA in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics.
Huang’s LinkedIn also said that she was located in the New York City Metropolitan Area.
Promoting BDS
The editorial also defended SJP at UCLA’s 2014 divestment resolution that was voted down in February 2014, after a debate that lasted over ten hours.
On November 3, 2014, Huang shared a poster to her Facebook page promoting SJP at UCLA’s divestment resolution, which the group attempted to pass again.
In November 2014, SJP at UCLA pushed a divestment resolution “calling on the Regents to divest from companies that enable and profit from violations of Palestinian rights.”
The resolution claimed that five companies “provided weapons used” by Israel “in attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip” and that investment in these companies “shows implicit support” for “the killings of civilians.”
The Instagram post said: “#tbt to two days ago when UCLA divested from companies profiting from human rights violations in Palestine. We have been working on this campaign for the last 8 months and Alhumdulilah our prayers were answered. These folks in particular our incredible BDS directors, Safwan and Aggie have poured their heart and souls to this movement. I'm so glad I was surrounded by my lovely board. Y'all are so real and make me realize any arguments we have is all out of love. & can't forget our best divestment organizers who have been involved since the beginning: zawar, Sarah, Ayesha, Aaliya, Jacob, jumana, Dana and Rahim. ❤️ #UCLADivested.”
Huang signed an SJP West January 8, 2015 campaign calling for the UC Student Association (UCSA) to adopt SJP at UCLA’s 2014 divestment resolution. The resolution reportedly called on the UC Regents to divest from American-based corporations that “violate Palestinian human rights.”
SJP Activism
On October 9, 2014, Huang updated her Facebook cover photo to a poster promoting SJP at UCLA ‘s Palestine Awareness Week.
Palestine Awareness Week (PAW) is a re-branding for American audiences of Israel Apartheid Week (IAW), originally presented as “an international series of events that seek to raise awareness of Israel’s settler-colonial project and apartheid system over the Palestinian people” and build support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The poster also invited students to visit their “mock apartheid wall.” Mock “apartheid” walls have been constructed by SJP groups on campuses to draw attention to alleged Israeli human rights violations against Palestinians.
On October 29, 2014, Huang co-authored a Daily Bruin editorial that invited students to “Come out to our Palestine Awareness Week.”
On November 5, 2014, SJP at UCLA posted a photo of Huang to their Facebook page. The post quoted Huang stating that she was active with SJP at UCLA because “I stand for human rights and my education should not come at the cost of humanity. It's about being conscious of my complicity in military occupation and human rights violations.”
SJP
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
