Ameer Abunabaa
Overview
Ameer Abunabaa expressed hatred of Israel during its war against Hamas terrorists while he was treasurer of an anti-Israel campus activist group, in late 2023 and early 2024.Abunabaa served as the treasurer of the Palestinian Student Association (PSA) at the University of Central Florida (UCF-PSA) since September 2023. He still held the position in January 2024 when the group announced its board members. UCF is located in Orlando, Florida.
In October 2023, UCF-PSA promoted hatred of Israel online following a series of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”
Also while Abunabaa served as treasurer, UCF-PSA promoted the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on social media.
Hatred of Israel during a Hamas War
On October 31, 2023, while Abunabaa was treasurer of UCF-PSA, the group issued an anti-Israel statement during Israel’s war against the Hamas terror group. The statement claimed [slide 3] that Israel was committing a “silent genocide” and there was “ongoing oppression and colonialism taking place.”The statement also accused [slide 2] Israel of “ongoing apartheid and ethnic cleansing” and demonized [slide 1] Israel for “Building walls and checkpoints,” a reference to Israel’s security barrier.
Israel’s security barrier, 97 percent of which is a low chain-link barrier, was built as a deterrent to Palestinian terror attacks. The concrete portions of the fence were built in response to Palestinian sniper attacks.
Israeli checkpoints were built to prevent terror attacks, such as suicide bombings, against Israel's civilian population.
The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.
Referring to Gaza as an "open-air prison" is a way to delegitimize the United Nations-approved [pp. 39–41] joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza Strip imposed in 2011 to prevent Hamas from acquiring more sophisticated rockets.
On the same date, Abunabaa posted on Instagram an image that said: “DOES YOUR HEALTHCARE COST YOU TOO MUCH? Sorry! Israel’s taken $120,000,000,000 in US taxpayer money as military aid to bomb hospitals.”
On October 17, 2023, the terror group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) fired rockets at Israel from Gaza, one of which misfired and fell on the parking lot of the al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital. Initial media reports blamed Israel. Following the incident, U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib immediately accused the Biden administration of funding Israel’s “genocide” of Palestinian people.
Biographical Information
As of January 2024, Abunabaa's LinkedIn profile said he was studying at UCF and was slated to graduate in 2027. On LinkedIn he went by “Ameer-Ahmad Abunabaa.”As of September 9, 2023, Abunabaa stated on Instagram that he was majoring in electrical engineering sciences at UCF.
As of January 2024, Abunabaa’s LinkedIn said he worked as a part-time valet attendant at Walt Disney World since March 2023.

BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
