May 20, 2021 - Violent Counter Protest

Musleh was present [00:00:08] at the scene of a violent brawl between two Israel supporters and an anti-Israel mob, fled [00:11:16] the police and then threw [00:14:13] garbage into the street in an attempt to obstruct the police as he participated in a violent counterprotest against a pro-Israel rally in Times Square. Musleh appeared [00:00:08] wearing a pink formal shirt and sunglasses in video published by the Daily Mail, in an article about the rally.

Musleh was present [00:00:08] at the scene of a violent brawl between two Israel supporters and an anti-Israel mob.

During the rally, anti-Israel activists pushed against a police barricade erected to separate the two groups. The anti-Israel side breached the barricade and marched toward the pro-Israel side, where they verbally assaulted the pro-Israel activists. Separate videos showed some anti-Israel activists also stealing Israeli flags from pro-Israel activists.

The anti-Israel activists then moved back to their side of the barricade, where some of them chanted at the Israel supporters: “Nazis! Nazis!”

Following these events, Musleh was among a group of activists that fled [00:11:16] the police when it began arresting activists after the assembly had been declared “unlawful.” Police warned the crowd that they would face arrest if they did not disperse. Musleh appeared [00:11:16] at the center of the screen wearing the same outfit we wore when he was present at the violent brawl.

Musleh was also featured [00:12:11] in a different moment running from the police, while he held a furled Palestinian flag, attached to a short staff, as officers chased anti-Israel activists.

Later, Musleh threw [00:14:13] garbage bags into the road in an attempt to create obstacles to law enforcement as police officers continued to chase anti-Israel agitators. Other activists threw chairs and other items into the road.

During the rally, anti-Israel activists, including violent anti-Israel agitator Waseem Awawdeh, joined a mob that violently attacked and reportedly yelled anti-Semitic slurs at Joseph Borgen, a Jewish man who was heading to the pro-Israel rally in Times Square.

Borgen was beaten to the ground, kicked and punched. Once he was on the ground, he was attacked with a crutch, stomped by several counterprotesters and pepper-sprayed.

Police arrested two of the anti-Israel activists and charged them with assault as a hate crime, menacing as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment as a hate crime. That same day, other anti-Israel activists also shot fireworks at people.

On May 21, 2021, WOL posted two Instagram posts that offered legal advice to anyone arrested “protesting for Palestine.” The posts also portrayed the assailants as victims.
