Alejandro Tanon Diaz
Overview
Alejandro Tañón Díaz was an organizer with a pro-Hamas activist group that held a protest during an Israeli war against Hamas terrorists in late 2023. At the time, he was a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).Tañón’s group held the protest almost a month after a series of Hamas terror atrocities and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023.
The Hamas terror attacks left over 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded. Israel retaliated with a war called “Swords of Iron.”
Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 2] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

November 9, 2023 - MIT CAA Anti-Israel Protest
On November 9, 2023, Tañón was an organizer and activist with MIT’s anti-Israel student group Coalition Against Apartheid (MIT CAA) when it joined other student groups in holding an anti-Israel campus protest.MIT CAA said that protesters demanded that MIT “stop funding research that supports Israeli apartheid and the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.” MIT CAA has defined itself as a group “in opposition to colonialism, occupation, and apartheid in Palestine and beyond.”
During the protest, anti-Israel activists chanted: “Not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel’s crimes!” Among the signs featured at the protest, one said [00:00:04] “MIT WE CHARGE YOU WITH GENOCIDE,” and another said [00:00:08]: “NO AID TO APARTHEID ISRAEL!”
The protest was organized by the Coalition for Palestine, reportedly comprised of 12 MIT student groups. MIT CAA is reportedly one of the main organizing groups in the Coalition for Palestine.
Tañón featured in an MIT CAA Instagram video discussing the MIT administration’s opposition to the event and concluded [00:01:03]: “Stay tuned for more details. Until apartheid falls!”
On October 9, 2023, two days after Hamas carried out their atrocities on Israelis, MIT CAA held an anti-Israel rally. The flyer for the event said: “LONG LIVE PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE…VICTORY IS OURS.”
Among Palestinians and anti-Israel activists, the term “resistance” can be a euphemism for nationalistic terror. It is often used to excuse or even glorify anti-Israel and anti- Semitic violence.
Both the Coalition for Palestine and MIT CAA reportedly participated in more than 20 anti-Israel events between October 7, 2023, the date of the Hamas terror attacks, and November 22, 2023.
