.”Anti-Israel Activism
On May 15, 2021, Kapica tweeted a selfie with American model, Bella Hadid, taken at an anti-Israel protest in Brooklyn, New York.At the rally, the protesters shouted [00:00:19]: “Free Palestine!” and [00:00:48]: “...The Occupation has got to go!”
The protest was organized by the NY4PALESTINE Coalition on May 15, 2021 and titled: “NAKBA 73 DEFEND PALESTINE!” A hashtag on the Facebook event flyer read #DEFENDSHEIKHJARRAH.”
The term “Nakba” is generally translated as “catastrophe” in Arabic, referring to the outcome of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It is a term often used to delegitimize the creation of the State of Israel by defining it as a catastrophe.
In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.
The NY4Palestine coalition is comprised of several New York-based anti-Israel organizations, including American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), Al-Awda NY and Within Our Lifetime (WOL), which was formerly the city-wide chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) in New York City (NYC SJP).
On May 15, 2021, the day of the protest, Kapica tweeted: “put some videos together from today's protest in Brooklyn

..” Kapica’s tweet included a montage of video clips taken from the protest, overlaid with a music soundtrack.
On May 10, 2021, Kapica tweeted: “Protest tomorrow in NYC [New York City] for anyone who can make it!”
The rally was co-organized by the NY4Palestine coalition.
Kapica’s tweet featured a flyer for an “EMERGENCY RALLY FOR PALESTINE” scheduled for May 11, 2021 at the Israeli Consulate in New York. The flyer also said: “#SaveSheikhJarrah” and “#SaveSilwan.”
On May 11, 2021, during the rally, protesters chanted [00:08:15]: “Intifada! Intifada! Long Live the Intifada!” and also[00:08:27]: “From New York to Gaza, globalize the Intifada!”
Since the early 2000s, the term “intifada,” which translates from Arabic as “uprising” or “insurrection,” has carried the connotation of violence.
The protesters also chanted [00:04:59]: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free!” and carried [00:04:52] banners that read: “BDS is the floor, not the ceiling.”
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” is a chant used [00:02:47] to call for the elimination of the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state. In April 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the chant as antisemitic.
Supporting BDS
On May 18, 2021, Kapica tweeted: “every Mediterranean restaurant that labels their food as ‘i*raeli’ should be boycotted for real, get that s**t out of my face.”BDS
The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true.
One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”
Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”
In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.
BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.
The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.
Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.
BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
