Anti-Israel Activism (SJP)

On July 18, 2014, Abuleil participated in an anti-Israel rally that SJP UTK co-hosted with the Muslim Students Association (MSA) chapter at UTK (UTK MSA). Abuleil was featured in a Facebook photo from the rally holding a Palestinian flag and wearing a white T-shirt with the same flag.

The description on the Facebook event page said the protest was called to “spread awareness about Israel’s current Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.” At the protest, anti-Israel activists held a sign that said: “THE USA FUNDS ISRAEL TO BOMB GAZA’S HOSPITALS.”

Israel commenced Operation Protective Edge (OPE) in July 2014, to stop rocket fire targeting Israeli civilians and to destroy Hamas attack tunnels.

On April 17, 2013, Abuleil participated in an anti-Israel event organized by SJP UTK, titled: “Israel/Palestine: What the Media Leaves Out.” The event featured a presentation by an anti-Israel agitator Alison Weir, which discussed “what American news media are not telling us about Israel-Palestine.” Abuleil stood next to Weir in a group photo taken at the event.

Weir is the founder and executive director of the anti-Semitic organization If Americans Knew (IAK). She has reportedly been “a repeat guest of white supremacist Clay Douglas on his hate radio show.” The Anti Defamation League (ADL) has exposed Weir’s propagation of numerous anti-Semitic and anti-Israel conspiracy theories.

SJP

SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.

The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.

SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Students Association (MSA) campus chapters.

SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.

SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.

Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
