Adam Benjamin

Overview

Adam Benjamin has spread hatred of Israel and promoted incitement online. Benjamin is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

In 2021, Benjamin expressed solidarity with Yasmeen Mashayekh, a graduate student at the University of Southern California (USC) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Senator who tweeted her desire to “kill every motherf**king Zionist.”

As of September 2022, Benjamin’s LinkedIn page said he had been pursuing a master’s degree in African Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since September 2021. 

Benjamin graduated from the University of West Virginia (UWV) with a bachelor’s degree in History and Anthropology in 2021. 

As of September 2022, Benjamin used handle “@boomnbubble” on Twitter. Until January 2022, Benjamin used the username “psalm reader” and the handle “@dailyremarx” on Twitter. As of November 2022, Benjamin’s Twitter bio said: “☭ political economy, culture, and whatever☭ 25 UCLA @whither_app side acccount @boomnbubble.”

As of September 2022, Benjamin’s TikTok bio said he was a “26 yo student and writer.” He used the handle “@zootedking” on TikTok. 

As of September 2022, Benjamin’s LinkedIn said he was located in Los Angeles, California. 

Hatred of Israel

On January 25, 2020, Benjamin tweeted: “I had a dream that I had to piss really bad but the only place around was an Israeli restaurant so I just went in and pissed on the floor.”

On March 24, 2020, Benjamin tweeted: “I really don’t care if Palestinians have a general disregard for the lives of Israelis lol.”

On July 28, 2020, Benjamin tweeted: “seeing a lot of american jews starting to turn on israel is really inspiring to me, being sincere.”

On July 29, 2020, Benjamin tweeted: “Do you agree with Israel’s right to exist? — No.”

On May 5, 2021, Benjamin tweeted: “Zionism is easily the most perverted form of nationalism that is in effective existence these days.”

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in their own national home, and the right to develop their national culture.

On May 10, 2021, Benjamin tweeted: “Anti-zionism is anti-fascism and proletarian internationalism, will take this to my grave.”

Promoting Incitement

Benjamin retweeted a May 10, 2021 tweet that said: “The brave men of Palestine rushing to the defense of Sheikh Jarrah after news of a huge number of Zionist settler-cultists arriving to brutalise the natives (of course, under Zionist police protection). May God give you strength, you raise our heads like nothing else.”

In May 2021, Palestinian violence erupted in anticipation of an Israel High Court ruling on eviction proceedings concerning over 70 Palestinian tenants illegally residing in Jewish-owned properties in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. 

On May 10, 2021, Benjamin promoted on Twitter a request from the anti-Israel group Samidoun calling for information about protests taking place during Israel’s Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW) against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). 

The tweet said: “With Zionist aggression reaching new heights, we’re scrambling to keep our list of upcoming actions around the world in defense of Al-Aqsa, Sheikh Jarrah, Jerusalem, and Palestine up-to-date. If you see any missing, please tell us: samidoun@samidoun.net.”


Incitement surrounding Al-Aqsa and Sheikh Jarrah were leading factors in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists firing over 4,300 rockets from Gaza at Israeli population centers from May 10 to 21, 2021. In response to rocket attacks from Gaza, Israel launched “Operation Guardian of the Walls (OGW),” striking military targets in the terrorist-controlled enclave.

The Samidoun request included a link to an article on the Samidoun website titled: “Take Action! #SaveSheikhJarrah and Defend Jerusalem: Boycott Israel, Support Palestinian Resistance.” The page encouraged people to “Boycott Israel, take the streets and…organize direct actions” to “defend Palestine and support the Palestinian resistance and the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea!

“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” is a chant calling to dismantle the State of Israel. It has also been employed by Hamas leader Khaled Mashal to call for the replacement of Israel with an Islamic state.

In the same Twitter post where he promoted Samidoun’s request, Benjamin wrote: “glad this resonated, proletarian struggle is international! if you’re refusing work show up for palestine!”

Benjamin retweeted a June 27, 2021 tweet from anti-Israel agitator Mohammed El-Kurd that claimed: “Silwan at large is facing ethnic cleansing…”

Jewish ownership claims to lands in Silwan, a Jerusalem neighborhood also known as Shiloach, have been frequently met with Palestinian violence against Israelis who sought to reclaim their property rights.

Solidarity with Yasmeen Mashayekh

In November 2021, Benjamin tweeted in support of Yasmeen Mashayekh, who was [00:11:08] in the middle of a national controversy over anti-Semitism she spread on social media that year.

In October 2021, Mashayekh was listed as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Senator for USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering (Viterbi). In May 2021, she tweeted: "I want to f**king kill every motherf**king Zionist.” She also tweeted: “yel3an el yahood [curse the Jews].”

Mashayekh has also spread violent hatred of Israeli Jews, called for the destruction of Israel and America, expressed support for Hamas and glorified terrorists.

On November 25, 2021, Benjamin tweeted: “please help yasmeen in her fight against zionist demonization and repression from USC.”

Supporting BDS

On May 17, 2021, during OGW, Benjamin tweeted: “In tandem with the Livorno Dockers blocking the Israeli ship I dug up this old google doc compilation of political work stoppages…some of which were also done for Palestine. Take a look!”

Benjamin was referring to the May 14, 2021 refusal by dockworkers from L’Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), an Italian labor union, to load a cargo ship in Livorno on its way to the Israeli port of Ashdod.

The document Benjamin linked to described multiple boycott initiatives, many of which were organized against Israel.

On May 19, 2021, Benjamin tweeted: “the effectiveness of a boycott can be debated empirically, but it’s like not that difficult to not buy Ben and Jerry’s stop whining.” He was responding to a tweet regarding the boycott of ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s. 

On July 19, 2021, ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s announced it would stop all product sales in “Occupied Palestinian Territory.” The BDS movement celebrated the decision, calling on the ice cream company to boycott the State of Israel in its entirety. However, company owner Unilever overrode the subsidiary’s decision after multiple US states decided to divest public funds from Unilever.  

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement was founded by Omar Barghouti in 2005 to challenge “international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.” BDS is an allegedly “Palestinian-led movement,” although leading BDS activists have admitted [00:01:01] this is not true. 

One of the demands of BDS includes [point 3] what is generally known as the “right of return,” a demand discredited as a way to eliminate Israel. Barghouti said the “right of return” is a means to “end Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.”  

Barghouti has said that BDS “aims to turn Israel into a pariah state, as South Africa once was.”

In his activism, Barghouti has also said [00:05:55] regarding Israel: “Definitely, most definitely, we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No…rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

The movement has been linked to numerous terrorist organizations and received a public endorsement from Hamas in 2017.

BDS initiatives include calling on institutions and individuals to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, promoting academic and cultural boycotts of Israel, and organizing anti-Israel rallies, protests and campaigns.

The movement’s most notable achievement has been the infiltration of university campuses through lobbying for “BDS resolutions.” In these cases, student governments and student groups, backed by their own anti-Israel members and affiliates, have proposed resolutions on some form of boycott of, or divestment from, Israel and Israeli-affiliated entities.

Boycott resolutions, although non-binding, have been passed by student governments on numerous North American campuses.

BDS activity is often aggressive and disruptive. It has been noted that universities that pass BDS resolutions see a marked increase in anti-Semitic incidents on campus. On one campus, when the student government debated a BDS resolution, reports emerged of violent threats against those opposing it.
