Hatem Bazian, an ethics professor at the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley) is the force behind the 20-year anti-Israel, antisemitic movement in the United States. That movement – now burgeoning on college campuses, the streets of major American cities and the halls of Congress – stems largely from the organizations founded by Bazian. Bazian is the founder of:
- Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), a nationwide anti-Israel campus organization
- American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), a national lobby and anti-Israel propaganda group
- Zaytuna College, an undergraduate institution that promotes Islamist ideology
- The Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at UC Berkeley, from where he politicizes his narrative of Muslim victimhood in America
Bazian is also a leader of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
HATEM BAZIAN AFTER OCTOBER 7
Since the October 7, 2023, massacre of almost 1,200 Israeli civilians by the Hamas terror organization, Bazian has been front and center, threatening Jews, excusing the terror group and whitewashing their history.
CALLING FOR AN INTIFADA IN AMERICA
Bazian famously called for “intifada” (violent uprising) in America and even fundraised for a Hamas-linked charity.
As a graduate student, he headed the General Union of Palestinian Students – an organization started by Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) terror head Yasser Arafat – at San Francisco State University and the Muslim Student Association at UC Berkeley.
Watch Hatem Bazian cynically avoid condemning Hamas’ October 7 atrocities:
STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINE
Bazian’s organization, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), is the driver of most anti-Israel campaigns on American college campuses.
A study conducted by Brandeis University, “Hotspots of Antisemitism and Anti-Israel Sentiments on US Campuses,” concluded, “One of the strongest predictors of perceiving a hostile climate toward Israel and Jews is the presence of an active SJP group on campus.”
SJP’s campaigns are designed to intimidate and harass Jewish students and aggressively disrupt pro-Israel campus events.
The group openly endorses anti-Israel terrorists, especially promoting those from the Marxist terror group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), including Leila Khaled (who hijacked planes during Black September) and Rasmea Odeh (who masterminded a bombing in a supermarket in Jerusalem that killed two university students).
Five days after Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack, SJP’s national organization published a toolkit to help chapters put together a “national day of resistance” against Israel. The pro-Hamas kit called the massacre a “historic win” and described the atrocities as “the Palestinian resistance [that] stormed the illegitimate border fence.”
The kit featured flyers with images of hang-gliders (one of the methods Hamas terrorists used to get over the border fence) and characterized all Israeli civilians as “settlers,” and thus legitimate targets.
On October 24, 2023, the chancellor of the State University of Florida ordered the state’s university system to shut down all SJP chapters affiliated with the National SJP for violating Florida’s anti-terrorism statute (due to the toolkit). Florida later retracted the shutdown out of free speech legal concerns.
A number of private universities have banned or temporarily suspended SJP chapters on their campuses, including Brandeis, Columbia and George Washington University.
AMERICAN MUSLIMS FOR PALESTINE
Bazian is also the founder of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and presently serves as chairman of its board. AMP has been called a “platform for anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans.” The organization sponsors and mentors SJP chapters across America, regularly lobbies Congress and has numerous links to terror organizations and terror financiers.
WATCH AMP’s National Policy Director Osama Abuirshaid lie about October 7:
Osama Abuirshaid [Osama Abu Irshaid] spread anti-Semitism, promoted anti-Semitic incitement, used homophobic slurs and expressed support for Hamas. He also denied Jewish history, spread anti-Israel conspiracy theories, celebrated violent rioters, demonized Israel and praised the Muslim Brotherhood.
AMP advocates for the elimination of the state of Israel through the “right of return” of all Palestinian “refugees.” During the “Knife Intifada” (a wave of stabbings in Israel beginning in 2015), AMP promoted the libel that Israel was attacking the Al-Asqa Mosque in Jerusalem.
In October 2023, the Virginia attorney general launched a federal investigation into AMP for terror financing.
AMP has been involved in a long-standing lawsuit for funneling money to Hamas. The suit is being brought by the parents of David Boim, an American teenager who was killed by a Hamas terrorist in Israel.
