Joy Karega

Joy Karega [Joilynn A. Karega-Mason] is a professor who spread anti-Semitic and anti-Israel conspiracy theories on social media.

Karega claimed on Facebook that Israel created ISIS, perpetrated 9/11 and executed the Charlie Hebdo attacks. She also posted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on the platform.

Oberlin placed Karega on administrative leave pending an investigation into the anti-Semitic statements she made on social media, followed by her dismissal from the university.

In November 2016, Karega was fired from her position as an assistant professor of rhetoric and composition at Oberlin College and Conservatory (Oberlin). She then sued Oberlin, reaching a settlement with the university in 2020.

In 2016, Joy Karega was an organizer for Students for a Free Palestine (SFP), an affiliate of the anti-Israel campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Oberlin. Oberlin is located in Oberlin, Ohio.

As of May 2025, Joy Karega's LinkedIn profile said she worked as an English professor and coordinator of general education assessment at the University of Louisville (U of L).
