Joy Karega
Joy Karega [Joilynn A. Karega-Mason] is a professor who spread anti-Semitic and anti-Israel conspiracy theories on social media.
Karega claimed on Facebook that Israel created ISIS, perpetrated 9/11 and executed the Charlie Hebdo attacks. She also posted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on the platform.
Oberlin placed Karega on administrative leave pending an investigation into the anti-Semitic statements she made on social media, followed by her dismissal from the university.
In November 2016, Karega was fired from her position as an assistant professor of rhetoric and composition at Oberlin College and Conservatory (Oberlin). She then sued Oberlin, reaching a settlement with the university in 2020.
In 2016, Joy Karega was an organizer for Students for a Free Palestine (SFP), an affiliate of the anti-Israel campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Oberlin. Oberlin is located in Oberlin, Ohio.
As of May 2025, Joy Karega's LinkedIn profile said she worked as an English professor and coordinator of general education assessment at the University of Louisville (U of L).
U of L is located in Louisville, Kentucky.
On December 23, 2014, Karega posted on Facebook a graphic with text that read: "...MY NAME IS JACOB ROTHSCHILD. / MY FAMILY IS WORTH 500 TRILLION DOLLARS. / WE OWN NEARLY EVERY CENTRAL BANK IN THE WORLD. / WE FINANCED BOTH SIDES OF EVERY WAR SINCE NAPOLEON. / WE OWN YOUR NEWS, THE MEDIA, YOUR OIL, AND YOUR GOVERNMENT..."
Karega wrote in the same post: "Yep. This family and several others..."
Conspiracy theories regarding the Rothschild family date back to the 18th century. Anti-Semites frequently cite the family’s wealth to support the claim that “Jews control the world’s money supply.”
On January 10, 2015, Karega shared on Facebook an article titled: "Flight 17 & WW III Option," and wrote: "...All things considered, it seems obvious that the same people behind the massacre in Gaza are behind the shooting down MA-17. The Israeli ground offensive began the very same day Flight 17 was shot down. / With this false flag, the Rothschild-led banksters, exposed and hated and out of economic options to stave off the coming global deflationary depression, are implementing the World War III option."
On January 13, 2015, Karega posted on Facebook a graphic showing a man wearing a mask of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu over a balaclava mask with the word ISIS printed on it. The caption on the graphic read: "FRANCE WANTS TO FREE PALESTINE? / TIME FOR A FALSE FLAG..."
Karega wrote in the same post: "Yep. Pretty much...Folks who turned off the indoctrinated media and do their homework know where Charlie Hebdo receives its support and backing..."
Also on January 13, 2015, Karega shared on Facebook an article titled: "PressTV-Bibi [Benjamin Netanyahu] under fire over Paris visit," and wrote: "Of course Netanyahu...went to the rally uninvited and of course he went even when he was asked by Pres. Hollande and French governmental officials over one more time in public just in case the message wasn't received via Massod [sic] and the 'attacks' they orchestrated in Paris."

On March 7, 2015, Karega shared on Facebook a post from Louis Farrakhan titled: "Muslims for 9/11 Truth: What You Need to Know #FalseFlag," and wrote: "...politically, Farrakhan is truth-telling in this video. We need more of us willing to venture into these areas. Folks need to speak up and stop being silent or afraid to speak out on these things.".
Louis Farrakhan has been the leader of the Nation of Islam (NOI), which is considered the “largest Black nationalist organization in the U.S.,” since 1977. Farrakhan spreads anti-Semitism and anti-white theology. He has referred to white people as “devils” and labeled [00:01:52] Jews “termites.” He has also said [00:00:01]: “The satanic Jews…control everything and mostly everybody."
On November 17, 2015, Karega posted on Facebook: "...It's troubling that in this day and age, where there is all this access to information, most of the general public doesn't know who and what ISIS really is. I promise you, ISIS is not a jihadist, Islamic terrorist organization. It's a CIA and Mossad operation, and there's too much information out here for the general public not to know this..."
SJP is a student organization engaged in anti-Israel activity on North American college and university campuses.
The first chapter of SJP was founded in 2001 at the University of California at Berkeley by Professor Hatem Bazian. Bazian has spread classic anti-Semitism, reportedly promoted religious anti-Semitism and defended the Hamas terror group. In 2004, Bazian called for “intifada” in America.
SJP organizes anti-Israel campaigns, including running annual Israel Apartheid Weeks, often in collaboration with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Muslim Student Association (MSA) campus chapters.
SJP has been a major force in pushing the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement on campuses. Chapters have initiated dozens of BDS resolutions in student governments, which have been proposed on or around Jewish holidays, a time when many Jewish students are off-campus.
SJP activists have reportedly physically assaulted, intimidated and harassed Jewish students, disrupted pro-Israel campus events and demonized pro-Israel campus organizations.
Chapters have often endorsed and campaigned for numerous terrorists and whitewashed terrorism.
