Leah Montange showed support for the pro-Hamas encampment at UofT in May 2024.

UofT assistant professor Leah Montange showed support for the encampment by signing on to a statement put out by UofT community members in May 2024 [row 19, second photo]. The May 20, 2024 statement was part of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The statement backed all the encampment’s demands, including divesting from the alleged “apartheid policies of the state of Israel and its ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

To show support, Montange submitted a “support selfie,” where text beside her face said: “DISCLOSE. DIVEST. CUT TIES.” Montange’s photo featured her holding a handwritten sign with the same text.

Montange reposted a May 2, 2024, X post from UofT Occupy for Palestine featuring photos from the encampment. The post said: “...LIBERATED!! @UofT students have SUCCESSFULLY set up their ENCAMPMENT…in SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE, despite attempts by police to disrupt our non-violent protest…”

UofT is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
