Koritha Mitchell
Overview
Koritha Mitchell is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and as of September 2019, was an Associate Professor in the English Department at Ohio State University (OSU).Supporting BDS
In 2015, Mitchell signed an open letter calling for the academic boycott of Israel.The open letter was addressed to the Modern Language Association (MLA), “calling on the association to pass a resolution endorsing the boycott of Israeli academic institutions.”
In January 2017, the MLA Delegate Assembly approved a resolution (2017-1) acknowledging “the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel contradicts the MLA’s purpose” and conflicted with another resolution (2002-1), that condemned boycotts against scholars. Therefore, the Assembly “resolved that the MLA refrain from endorsing the boycott.”

The letter also called upon Israel to “Honor the right of Palestinian refugees to return as has been stipulated numerous times since UN Resolution 194.”
The “right of return” is a Palestinian demand discredited as a means to eliminate Israel. International law mandates no absolute right of return and UN Resolution 194, which defined principles for “refugees wishing to return to their homes,” was unanimously rejected by Arab nations following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
On November 22, 2013, Mitchell tweeted support for a BDS resolution proposed to the American Studies Association (ASA), writing: “BDS constitutes a form of dialogue. #2013asa.”
In 2013, the ASA adopted a resolution calling for an academic boycott of Israel, during its annual conference.
Mitchell was also featured in a video promoting the BDS Resolution at the ASA. In the video, Mitchell stated that the MLA’s participation in BDS was “very appropriate.”
