Mazen Adi

Overview

Mazen Adi has accused Israel of “trafficking children’s organs” before the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), after which calls were made to fire him from his position as professor at Rutgers University (Rutgers).

As of December 2020, Adi's LinkedIn page said he was an “Attorney At Law” in New York, since April 2019. He was also listed as an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of New York.

As of the same date, Adi’s LinkedIn said he was an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers, from “Sep 2015 - Jan 2018.”

As of February 2018, Adi was de-listed as a professor in the Political Science Department at Rutgers.

He has also been accused by a former student of supporting Palestinian terrorism.

Demonizing Israel at the UN

According to a report published by the UN on October 23, 2008, Adi stated that “Israel, since its inception, had systematically targeted civilians, murdered children and the elderly, caused destruction to the environment and brought settlers from all over the world to displace the people living there. In its ‘wars of aggression,’... it had tortured prisoners, and killed wounded soldiers and buried them alive.”

In a speech to the UN Security Council on April 25, 2012, Adi claimed that “it is clear that Israel’s involvement in the illicit trafficking of weapons in the world encourages international terrorism.”

Adi then went on to allege that “some Israeli officials are now trafficking children’s organs.”

At a UN Security Council meeting on December 9, 2008, Adi accused Israel of committing “crimes against humanity,” adopting a “slow-kill policy” against Palestinians, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

At the same meeting, Adi went on to charge that “Israel introduced State terrorism in the region.”

Calls for Termination

After the video and transcripts of Adi’s comments at the UN surfaced, a petition was circulated calling for Rutgers to fire him.

UNWatch, an independent NGO watch group, also called upon the university to fire the professor and for the United States to deport him.

In an article published by UNWatch on November 6, 2017, the organization’s executive director, Hillel Neuer, described Adi as “an apologist for the Syrian regime’s genocide”

The article went on to explain that ”as a Syrian diplomat and legal advisor he [Adi] justified the war crimes of the genocidal Assad regime.”

In February 2018, it was reported that Rutgers, responding to the allegations and demands for his dismissal, terminated Adi’s employment at the university.
