David Groth
Overview
David Groth [Dave Groth] has paid tribute to Hitler, mocked the Holocaust, spread anti-Semitism and promoted racism. Groth is a gun enthusiast and has also spread hatred of Israel.As of May 2019, Groth’s Facebook page said his education was “Battle Creek-Ida Grove.” Over the text was a link to the page for Battle Creek-Ida Grove High School, located in Western Iowa.
As recently as March 2016, Groth indicated on Facebook he attended an event at a drag racing complex in Onawa, Iowa, also in western Iowa.
Paying Tribute to Hitler
On April 21, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook a now-unavailable Youtube video that was titled: “Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler 2016.”On April 20, 2016, Groth wrote on Facebook: “One of my favorite days of the year. Happy birthday Hitler!”
On April 7, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook a cartoon that said: “Hitler did bring up some pretty valid points.”
On August 13, 2012, Groth quoted Hitler on Facebook.
Mocking the Holocaust
On April 19, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook a graphic featuring Hitler’s likeness beside red headphones bearing a Nazi swastika. Text by the headphones said: “klangs by hitler - the final solution to the audio question.”Spreading Anti-Semitism
On August 5, 2018, Groth tweeted to conservative political figure Bill Kristol: “You are a Jew, not white. You are a child of Satan. Subversion and deception are all you know. Your people are nation wreckers since the time of Rome, the first republic.”Groth's tweet featured a graphic of an anti-Semitic meme called the Happy Merchant, wearing a shirt with the Israeli flag. The meme said: “How do you do fellow whites?”
The Happy Merchant is an anti-Semitic cartoon caricature of a Jew with a black beard, long hooked nose, a hunched back, crooked teeth and wrung hands. The cartoon is often used in memes by white supremacists to spread conspiracy theories and harass Jews online.
On February 9, 2016, Groth wrote on Facebook: “It's pretty hard to do, but Ted Nugent just got a lot cooler in my opinion. Too bad there is a couple Israel-firsters commenting on his post.”
Groth’s post showed an anti-Semitic Facebook post, purportedly by Nugent. The post Groth attributed to Nugent showed a photo montage of 12 Jewish politicians and activists, each with an Israeli flag next to their face.
The image header said: “So who is really behind gun control?” Text next to the image of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg called him the mayor of “Jew York City” and a “9/11 Israeli agent.”

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is an anti-Semitic fabricated text that depicts wealthy Jews conspiring to take over the world.

On April 19, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook text that said: “If Trump wins the election it’ll be the first time in history that a billionaire moved into public housing vacated by a black family!”On April 23, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook a graphic, with text that said: “Should old films be remastered to include more people of colour? … No, people of colour should be remastered.”
On May 9, 2016, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Apparently the reason black people don't go to national parks, is because trees remind them of lynching. Also because preserving nature is a white privilege.”
Gun Enthusiast
On October 29, 2018, Groth tweeted: “I just entered to win a @BarrettRifles M82-A1 .50 BMG Rifle valued at $9100+ from @ClassicFirearm #gungiveaway #winagun #barrett #boomstick #50cal #hunting #dreamgun #riflegiveaway #50BMG #guncontest Enter Here -”Groth’s tweet included an image of the Barrett M82-A1, which the firearms manufacturer Barrett says is the “first shoulder fired semi-automatic” rifle.
On August 28, 2017, Groth posted a Facebook photo of himself shooting a handgun at a firing range.
On May 28, 2016, Groth wrote on Facebook: “So I decided I'm going to get a double rifle for my 40th birthday. I need to save $25 a week from now until then.”
On May 1, 2016, Groth posted a Facebook photo of a Glock handgun that was modified with a high capacity magazine and silencer to be a sub-machine “personal defense weapon.” He wrote: “Hopefully someday for home defense.”
On February 22, 2016, Groth wrote: “So begins my adventure at Gunsite.” His post referred to the Gunsite Academy in Arizona, which gives private gun training courses.
On the same day, Groth posted to Facebook a photo from Gunsite and wrote in a separate post that day: “I'm getting worked over hard today. Getting basic manipulation beat into my head.”
On February 20, 2016, Groth posted to Facebook a photo of a handgun and wrote: “She's all ready to go to Arizona.”
On February 15, 2015, Groth posted to Facebook a patent diagram of a Browning pistol.
On January 30, 2016, Groth wrote on Facebook: “With less than a month to go, I'm getting really nervous and excited to go down and train at Gunsite Academy!” He said in the comments: “I'm taking my colt 1911 for the beginners pistol class.”
On November 28, 2015, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Why watch feetsball when there's a gun show to go to. I got an old cheap revolver and some brass for another pistol.”
On November 17, 2015, Groth wrote on Facebook: “I got my confirmation letter from Gunsite Academy today so I can go learn to shoot my pistol. I feel like Charlie with a golden ticket.”
On January 20, 2013, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Hooray for firearm appreciation day!”
On December 21, 2012, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Brownells has sold a record amount of PMAGS (magazines for ar15 rifles) lately. What would normally be sold in 3.5 years, they managed to sell in 36 hours. Things are getting a little crazy out there. In some gun shops the shelves have literally been wiped clean of every semi auto rifle.”
Spreading Hatred of Israel
On September 25, 2012, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Iranian president Ahmadinejad speaking about Israel: ‘who are these zionists to dictate American foreign policy?. My favorite comment on this story: who is Ahmadinejad to tell us American slaves to question our master's (Israel's) decisions?”On October 10, 2012, Groth wrote on Facebook: “Yay we're sending troops to Jordan now. Wait what? I thought President Obama wasn't going to be a warmonger. Oh that's right we're just doing Israel's bidding.”
On February 6, 2016, Groth posted an image to Facebook that said: “238,000 Veterans Have Died Waiting For Healthcare - U.S. Increases Aid To Israel To $4.5 Billion/Yr.”
