Overview
Alicia Garza has spread anti-Semitism, honored violent activists, promoted bigotry and demonized Israel. Garza is also a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.As of May 2021, Garza was listed on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) website as a co-founder.
As of May 2021, Garza’s LinkedIn page said she was the “Principal” at the Black Futures Lab in San Francisco, California and “Special Projects Director” at the National Domestic Workers Alliance.
As of the same date, Garza’s LinkedIn page said she received a master’s degree in Ethnic Studies from San Francisco State University (SFSU) in 2017.
Spreading Anti-Semitism
On July 18, 2017, Garza tweeted: “And now it's time for the ‘I'm Jewish not white so that's my excuse for calling you stupid immoral and a scumbag.’”Honoring Violent Activists
As of July 2020, Garza had posted on social media at least 12 times in support of members of the Black Liberation Army (BLA). Below are some examples.The BLA was a violent “Nationalist/Separatist” group with the stated goal to “take up arms for the liberation and self-determination of black people in the United States.” The group was active from 1970 to 1981 and its members were involved in bank robberies, the murder of police officers and other crimes.
On March 8, 2017, Garza urged in a Facebook post for International Women’s Day that others should “learn your black feminist history and the contributions of women of color” and included Assat Shakur’s name in a list of nine women listed as exemplars .
Assata Shakur was convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper and wounding another in 1973 while a member of the Black Liberation Army (BLA). She escaped from prison in 1979 and fled to Cuba in 1984, where she resides today. She is listed on the FBI Most Wanted Terror List under her legal name, Joanne Deborah Chesimard.
On January 12, 2017, Garza wrote a Facebook post where she referred to Shakur as “mama assata.”

Mutulu Shakur, brother of Assata Shakur, was a Black Liberation Army (BLA) member convicted for his involvement in a 1981 Brinks robbery where two police officers and one Brinks security guard were murdered. He was also involved in the 1979 prison break of his sister and fellow BLA member Assata, who was jailed for the murder of a police officer in 1973.
Garza’s post included a link in support of Veronza Bowers, who was convicted of killing a U.S. Park Ranger in 1973, and Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of aiding and abetting in the murder of two FBI agents.
On May 2, 2016, Garza tweeted an image of Shakur and wrote the hashtag: “#HandsOffAssata.”
On March 23, 2016, Garza tweeted: “Hands off our sister Assata.” Her tweet embedded another tweet about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie demanding that Shakur, under her legal name, Joanne Deborah Chesimard, be returned to the U.S.
On May 30, 2015, Garza tweeted: “This is why I keep saying yall. This movement is long and is a part of our heritage. Tuh. Why you think Assata said it is our DUTY to fight+.”
On February 28, 2017, Garza wrote on Facebook: “I mean. If America had a merit based immigration system from the beginning not none of these mediocre wypipo like 45 would be here today. What does it mean to support yourself financially? Y'all used enslaved labor, murder and theft of land and resources to get where you are.”
On April 22, 2017, Garza wrote on Facebook: “It's always fascinating to see how wypipo in the ‘progressive movement’ deal with getting called on their messiness. Folk will bite claw kick scream deflect threaten and all the while I'm just over here like thank you for showing your whole entire a** right now.”
On May 10, 2017, Garza wrote on Facebook: “wypipo please do not run and tattle to me every time a BLM chapter doesn't do things the way you would do it. that is peak arrogance right there and one of 5,468,973,947,609 y'all need to take a seat and LISTEN. also, i'm not your mammy. go on and just sit with that for a minute.”
Garza also liked a comment responding to her post that said: “Wypipo love snitching with they thieving a**es.”
On May 15, 2017, Garza claimed on Facebook that she was the only one who acknowledged cleaning staff in a “co-working space that has a lot of wypipo in it.” She concluded: “wypipo, how hard is it to acknowledge the people that clean up after yo a**? jesus lord.”
On May 16, 2017, Garza posted on Facebook: “Wypipo LOVE to try it with me. And I mean LOVE TO TRY IT. By all means, please tell me again that ‘not all white people…’ whatever and whatnot.”
On June 11, 2017, Garza posted on Facebook about being on a flight and watching two films that involved white people kidnapping a black person. She wrote in the comments: “LISTEN. i am giving each and every one of these wypipo the side eye. every last one.”
On January 2, 2018, Garza tweeted: “And so my question still stands. Racism is not a people of color problem. It’s a white people problem. So white people need to solve it. What do you do each day to solve this problem? This is my question.”
On August 10, 2019, Garza wrote on Facebook: “Whenever I hear someone say ‘gender derailed the movement’ I want to punch puppies and kittens because y’all sound just like wypipo talkin bout all lives matter. Just admit you hate women and trans people and let’s move the f**k on already.”
In 2017, JVP launched the “Deadly Exchange” (DX) campaign, accusing American Jewish organizations of promoting human rights abuses by coordinating exchange programs between American and Israeli security personnel to advance “worst practices" and racist policies. The campaign blamed [00:04:04] Jewish organizations for violence against Black and Brown communities, immigrants and activists in the U.S.
On January 29, 2019, in a Facebook conversation about U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, Garza, wrote: “And frankly, which elected official in congress doesn’t pledge their soul to the state of Israel.”
On July 18, 2017, Garza wrote a Facebook post where she claimed there is “apartheid in Palestine.”
Also on July 18, 2017, Garza tweeted: “Shoutout to @DykeMarchChi for standing up for their principals when folks tried to take it over for their own agenda.”
In June 2017, Chicago Dyke March organizers were accused of anti-Semitism after expelling Jewish marchers for carrying rainbow flags with Jewish stars. Organizers claimed that the flags were a “trigger” offensive to other marchers and that one of the banned marchers was employed by an organization that had “connections to the Israeli State and right wing pro-Israel interest groups.” In July 2017, Chicago Dyke March reportedly tweeted: “Zio tears replenish my electrolytes!” The term “Zio” [Zionist] is an often-used anti-Semitic slur.
On June 26, 2017, Garza shared a Facebook post accusing Israel of “apartheid.”

Promoting Bigotry
As of July 2020, Garza has used the derogatory slang term “wypipo” at least 23 times on social media.
