Report on Jewish Voice for Peace (November 2018)
Since 1996, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) has attempted to drive a wedge between American Jews and Israel. JVP’s targeting of North American university campuses and partnering with notorious anti-Israel group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), has led to an environment on campus where students often feel unsafe to express support for Israel. Despite claiming on their website to “work together for peace,” JVP fosters anti-Semitism on campus and beyond with activities and campaigns aimed at damaging the Jewish connection to their homeland. This includes aggressively campaigning for the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and collaborating with the anti-Israel IfNotNow (INN). |

This report highlights 70 JVP activists from cities and campuses across the U.S. and Canada. These JVP activists have: |

|
Also included in the report are 5 blogs breaking down how JVP operates: |
1. JVP's Funders - Promoting an Anti-Israel Narrative
JVP receives hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants every year from various funds and foundations for its purported mission of “peace and justice for all peoples of the Middle East.” However, in reality, JVP’s funding sources and fellow grant recipients reveal them to be part of a network that is aggressively one-sided and anti-Israel. JVP claimed in its 5778 Annual Report that “84% of our funding comes from individual donors” and the average gift is $84. The report also claimed that as of June 2017, $2,921,196 came from “contributions, gifts & grants.” However, JVP also receives large amounts of funding from both private and public foundations. 2. JVP and SJP - Promoting BDS, Supporting Each Other
While SJP has increasingly been revealed as anti-Semitic, JVP has increasingly come to their aid. In fact, JVP and SJP have proven to be two sides of the campus anti-Israel coin. The groups can regularly be found fundraising, promoting, attending and co-hosting each other's events, sharing student activists and defending one another. To read the full blog click here. |
3. JVP and Anti-Semitism
JVP regularly dismisses and enables anti-Semitism. In various campaigns and events, JVP has repeatedly refused to acknowledge anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism and has chosen to align itself with anti-Semites and even convicted murderers of Jews. JVP’s Jewish identity acts as a “shield” protecting other anti-Israel organizations from accusations of anti-Semitism. Groups accused of promoting anti-Semitic views can deflect those accusations by stating that Jews affiliated with JVP share the same views, therefore they can’t possibly be anti-Semitic. 4. The Anti-Birthright Coalition
Since the existence of the earliest Jewish diaspora over 2000 years ago, Jews aspired and in many cases succeeded to return to the "Land of Israel." As old as the diaspora itself are those who sought to deny Jews their right to visit and live in Israel. In 1999, Birthright was created to help connect young Jews to their ancestry by organizing Jewish heritage trips to Israel. Leading opponents of the right of Jews to connect to their homeland include AMP, SJP and the BDS movement. So it is no surprise that these groups are staunch adversaries of the Birthright heritage trip. More recently, JVP and IfNotNow (INN) have provided a “Jewish stamp of approval” to their anti-Birthright agenda. To read the full blog click here. |
5. JVP's Connection & Collaboration with IfNotNow
While JVP does not represent mainstream American Jewry, they work together with and have been endorsed by IfNotNow (INN), an organization founded by young Jews that claims to take no position on BDS. INN opposes what it calls the American Jewish establishment’s support for the “occupation” and has been careful not to weigh in on other issues, stating, “We do not take a unified stance on BDS, Zionism or the question of statehood.” By remaining “neutral” on these issues, INN attempts to be seen as a more legitimate voice than JVP, in a bid to attract activists from across a wider spectrum. While INN markets itself as the more accessible face of Jewish anti-Israel activism, the similarities and collaboration between INN and JVP reveal a deepening alliance. Ex-Canaries - Two Former JVP Activists
"My friendship with the people from JVP started to grow more toxic throughout this summer because I started to find them very hypocritical. They loved Mao but hated Israel because of the wars it engaged in with Gaza. How could they love a dictator who had killed millions, yet hate a country defending itself against hostile neighbors?" To read the full testimonial click here.
|
"I asked to meet with JVP to discuss pushing the resolution off until the end of the High Holy Days and was met with a hostile reaction. I was threatened, indirectly, by many members of the group who claimed that they had a host of candidates who they were ready to run against me and would portray me as a racist who was uncaring of the struggles faced by many Palestinians did I not comply."
